In-toeing

Does anyone have a child who does this? My dd does this constantly and is always falling. We saw the pediatrician for her physical yesterday and they told me they would send her for a consult at 3 years, but if I wanted, I could bring her early. Dr. Carrion was the recommendation of the doctor, but I was just told by their office that they don't see children for in-toeing until they are 5 years old. I am going to call a few more doctors to get other opinions, so if anyone has advice about in-toeing or a pediatric orthopedic recommendation, I would love to hear them!

DD walked with her toes inward for a long time it seemed, I was worried about it too. My Dr told us it's usually not a concern until they're over 3 since it usually resolves itself. And he was right, sometime around the time she turned 3 it resolved and she walks fine now at 3 1/2.

My DD has the same issue (she's 21 mos) and we've mentioned it to the ped but he said most cases correct themselves so there was no need to do anything at this point. He said to just keep an eye on it to make sure it wasn't getting worse. After doing a little research myself, I completely agree with my ped. It appears most cases do correct themselves as the child gets older.

DD#1 had it. We saw Dr McGinley in Port Jeff because my ped thought it was severe enough. He saw her some where between 18 months and 2yrs(I think) I was told that they do not do anything for it anymore unless is is VERY severe. They have found that the kids that had braces on their legs and the kids that did not, wound up exactly the same by the age of 8. He explained to me that as their legs grow, the bones tend to straighten. Well, he was right on the money and by the time she was 8 it was pretty much gone.
I feel your pain however, because my DD split her eyebrow open and got stitches when she was 2.5 all while walking and tripping over her own feet. That kid fell all day everyday. People used to ask me if something was wrong with her or was she really uncoordinated.
On a side not, DD#2 sees Dr Carrion. She was born with partial hip dysplasia. I LOVE HIM!!!! He is like a giant teddy bear and is great with my DD.

My DD had the same thing. Our ped. told us that most doctors won't even see a child under EIGHT for it! But she suggested we try to get it checked out anyway. We were referred to Dr. Carrion, but ended up going to a different doctor, I think Manoff.
He said basically the same thing that I had read everywhere, that unless it's causing problems for her physically, it's looked at as a cosmetic issue these days and they won't do anything for it. Her intoeing has decreased a great deal since she was little and is honestly not very noticeable anymore. He predicted it will be gone completely by the time she's 6 or 7.
In-toeing is very common from what he said.
I would definitely have it checked out if she's tripping a lot from it, but know that it will very likely improve with time.

Thanks for the reassurance! I think we will wait until she is 3 in November and then go and see someone about it if it still seems as significant as it is now.

I used to in-toe & fall all the time.

It resolved itself over time.
