In a wedding at 36 weeks!

Over the summer, I had agreed to be in my cousin's bridal party.

Lo and behold, I am now pregnant and will be 36 weeks at the time of her wedding.

We haven't gone dress shopping yet (the wedding is in August) - what do I do when it comes time to order a dress? Should I just step down from the BP?

I'm sure someone had to have been in this situation before - please shed some light on this for me!

Re: In a wedding at 36 weeks!

Do you have to travel or is the wedding somewhere local?

If it is somewhere local, I would still be in it, but maybe ask your friend what she would prefer that you do because there is always that chance that you could go early.

I was in a wedding at 22 weeks that I had to fly to attend. If I had been over 28 weeks I would've backed out.

Re: In a wedding at 36 weeks!

I had Three pregnant women in my BP. Two of them were due about 4 or 5 weeks after the wedding and the third was about 6 mos. They all ordered bigger size dresses. I also made sure to order dresses that didn't have any type of belts or anything around the waste. I think they got a size 12 or 10.. I forget, but then when they had the dresses altered the seamstress will make sure it fits well. Just go closer to the wedding just incase you get bigger.

It's local...

The dress is really my main concern. Will I just have to order a bigger size? Do most BM dresses come in maternity?

I don't think you should back out if your only concern is the dress.

I would talk to your cousin. A BM has so many duties - planning the shower, bachelorette party, help with invitations, cakes, go dress shopping, etc. etc. etc. You could still do a lot of those things with her. It really depends on how close you guys are.

talk to the folks at the dress store. they may suggest because you'll be so far along - to order a dress 2 sizes too big. I know i had a pg MOH, but she was only a few months along and they suggested one size up. It was PERFECT...she needed VERY little alterations...but at 36 weeks - you have to assume you'll be large & in charge (in a GOOD way)....Chat Icon Chat Icon

I wouldn't step down.

One of my good friends had a baby two weeks before my wedding - she just got a larger size than normal. Talk to the place where you buy the dresses - they'll know what to order - they are used to this kind of stuff happening! Chat Icon

They can also order you extra fabric. They said they would do that for me if for some reason my dress was too small for the wedding I was in at 23 weeks.

Good luck! Chat Icon
