I'm such a moron!
so my vaio has been running a bit slow. granted, it's a couple years old, but it's a duo core and has pretty good components....
a couple weeks ago, I did another spyware scan. helped, but not much.
yesterday, DH borrowed the laptop and said 'are you aware you only have 3% of your c drive free?'
you've GOTTA be kidding me! I've been so lax. so, all of last night and this morning I removed huge programs (like illustrator) and about 15gigs of old imaging data files (I already published them!) that I really don't need on my laptop.
backed everything up, defragged, and strangely, my computer now runs like new 
what a dufus I was! I hereby promise to never neglect computer maintenance again......
