I'm so embarassed
I went in today for blood and ultrasound. The nurse had trouble finding my vein, it was taking forever and eventually she pulled out and said the doc would have to do it.
Well, I guess I'm a little more stressed out than I realized, because, for the first time in about 2 years, I passed out and started convulsing. I woke up to the doctor screaming my name and the nurse was visibly shaken.
They kept me for an hour and then wouldn't let me drive home. And now I feel like the world's biggest arse. I'm so unbelievably embarassed and so upset with myself for letting my emotions take control of me. How the hell am I going to be strong enough to go through with this procedure if I can't even muster the strength to get blood taken?

Anxiety is something you cannot completely control. It's a chemical reaction.
I have gotten really upset when a nurse couldn't find my vein and went at me for what seemed like hours. I got light headed and hot and felt like I was going to pass out. I think it's pretty normal to have anxiety about everything you are going through.
Don't let this episode mark the future procedure. They are totally different. Just because you had this happen doesn't mean it will happen again.
Talk this through in therapy and find out exactly what the trigger was. The anxiety about the unknown and how much we have invested in this is normal.
Hang in there..you are almost there.

Re: I'm so embarassed
I am so surprised they were not more familiar with these situations.. I would think that happens often?? I know 2 people that react really bad just off the top of my head..
I can only suggest that you doo not drink coffee when you are getting blood work or iv's.. And drink tons of water.. You were probably dehydrated.. Sorry you feel bad but seriously its not as bad as YOU think it is..
Praying that this is all going to have you miracle at the end of this very cycle...

Re: I'm so embarassed
I am what they call "a hard stick" and only certain people at the office can find my veins. I always have to drink at least a tall glass of water before I go in for blood work. I am sort of used to it now but I know how you feel - don't be embarrassed they are medical professionals

Re: I'm so embarassed
Beth, don't you DARE be embarassed!!!! Look how far you've come- you have NOTHING to be embarassed about! We're all so proud of you- I remember stories you used to tell about fainting at the sight of a needle, and IVF is NOT something to be taken lightly, but yet here you are, b/c your desire to have another child is THAT strong. Keep your chin up, and let that be a thing of the past. I know that I even get a little when they take too long to find my vein. It happens to all of us at one time or another.

Nothing to be ashamed of... you are under a lot of stress right now. They should be more cautious. Feel better.

Re: I'm so embarassed
Thanks girls I know it happens, and I know they've seen it before, but I guess they haven't seen it in a while, and I also happen to freak myself out SO much that my blood sugar and blood pressure drops so far down that I start shaking while I'm passed out, which I've been told by DH and others, looks like a seizure, even though it isn't, so I'm sure that's why they were a little freaked out.
Nonetheless, I can't shake the humiliation - I'm embarassed and mad at myself - I really thought I had gotten over this, but apparently I hadn't and I feel like a total schmuck.
At least now I know when I go in for retrieval I need to be clear that I have to lay down while they do the IV, and have someone distract me.
Ugh

Re: I'm so embarassed
Sorry, you had to go through this! My veins are also hard to find. But, I would do what the OP suggested.....Drinks lots of water! Also, if you see the same nurse, try to get another one. Some nurses are just better than others!
