I'm having a thought... re: babysitting....
I'll just throw it out there...
I see so many moms (including me) who really can't ever go out at night because they don;t have sitters....
And there are many moms (like me) who really can not afford to hire a babysitter....
I'm wondering how you ladies would feel if we started some type of babysitting barter? So, we would babysit for someone and they in turn would commit to a night where they could babysit back?
Has anyone on here ever tried this?

Yeah - thats what I was thinking could be the thing that blows this idea apart.... But maybe for those that know and trust each other?

I saw something on tv yesterday about this.
They have babysitting mixers... they compared it to speeddating for moms All of the moms meet, they even give every mom a folder with every other mom's resume (that seemed a bit much to me). After you talk and "interview" each other, you can exchange contact info.
Another tactic was a website babysiting cooperative where moms can log on and request a babysitter for a specific date and time or a mom can log on and see if she wants to babysit for anyone. When you babysit you accrue points and you cash in your points when you need someone to baby sit for you. I believe the more kids, the more points. This site is member only and prescreened. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name

I don't think I could do this right now, but it is a good idea.
If you are nervous about meeting or trusting people, just have a gtg first of everyone and make it a meet and greet.

This definitely sounds like a great idea Liza. I think first though would definitely be meeting everyone/feeling comfortable, etc.
Maybe we could set up our own website type thing somehow w/ availability/dates needed or something

I don't live that far from you...seriously if you ever need someone let me know. Matthew would love a little playmate. I know your son is a little older but they're probably the same size.
To other moms in NJ I'd be willing to do something like this.

I remembered I saw it on CBS2 news and it was a segment reported by Kirsten Cole (who I think is pregnant). I tried to find it on their website but no such luck. Maybe someone else would be able to find it

I am part of a babysitting circle, I can drag up the rules if you want. They are simple.
They are really simple and we use a token system and it works well. It costs 1 token for a normal babysitting session, and if you stay out after midnight it costs 2 tokens. You put your own child to bed, usually we all go out after bedtime. Also, we have incentives like a bottle of wine, food, good DVD's etc.
Its a great idea and its nice for people who don't have any family in town.
