I'm a little confused...$$ situation...can someone help me with this.
I'm asking for someone else....
He's paying childsupport on the 30th of Jan. He's always paid on the last sunday of the month. They now want him to pay on the 15th, beginning Feb 15th.
He won't have all the money because he just paid the bill on 1/30. So he will basically be paying his bill 2x in 6 weeks.
But it still works out to once a month.
Is he losing $$?
I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure

Well presumably the 2/15 bill will cover less of a period of time than the 1/30 bill, so no. I hate when companies change the due date and make your payments due sooner, it messes me up!

No he won't. It sucks they are moving his due date up though! His final payment will just come sooner.

Re: I'm a little confused...$$ situation...can someone help me with this.
OK...I'm dense...please help me understand this.
It's an $800 bill (for child support) He basically puts $200 a week away for it. Which is what he did up until this payment for 1/30. So for the 2/15 payment he has to put $400 a week away for it. Than he can go back to $200 a week for the 3/15 payment.
He feels like he should only have to pay half for the 2/15 payment because it's half a month (2/1-2/15). Than continue the $800 payment on 3/15 for (2/16-3/15)
Did that make sense or did it confuse anyone else as much as it did me?

I think at the end of the lease (for example) wont he pay on the 15th but could stay till the 15 th of the next month instead of the 30th of the previous month??

If its for child support it really only matters by month...its an $800 per month thing, doesn't matter what day its paid...he will only pay once for January, once for February, once for March...it sucks, but that's the way it is.

It's actually for childsupport. I edited my question with the right info hoping it would make more sense.
They both agreed to paying his ex on the 30th of every month. She told him today after the Jan payment she wants it to be on the 15th, beginning in Feb.

Is the date court regulated or is it a personal agreement? If its a personal agreement then just tell her that if she wants it moved up, she'll only have half the amount she wants. If its court regulated, he's gonna have to pay the full $800 on the 15th or face going into arrears.

Re: I'm a little confused...$$ situation...can someone help me with this.
he is not paying more. He is paying the same amount for the month. $800 but now he has to pay 2 weeks early for this initial change in date which leaves him only 2 weeks to save up for it instead of 4 weeks. But then afterwards, he is back to every 4 weeks or so.
ETA: if the date of payment was set in the court paper, she CAN'T just change the date just like that. It has to be changed through court.

So you pay $800 for 1/30, then $400 for 2/15, and $800 again starting 3/15 and $800 every month on the 15th thereafter.
That sounds right to me.

If its personal then he can continue to pay on the 30th of every month. If she wants it earlier she's going to have to deal with half the payment the first time around.

Ditto!
if she wants it on the 15th, it'll be 1/2 a payment for that first payment and then it'll be a full month's payment on the 15th of March..

Re: I'm a little confused...$$ situation...can someone help me with this.
See, I disagree with the above (considering this is child support and not a loan payment). Was the 1/30 payment for January or February? (I'm assuming it was for January)
He owes $800/each month, not $800 every 30 days. So if he only pays $400 on Feb 15, his payments, would look like this: Jan $800 Feb $400 March $800 so she would be out $400 for Feb
I think they should work it out so he can move up the payment to the 15th more gradually so he'll be able to save up.
Maybe make the payment on week 3 this month, so he has 3 weeks to save instead of 2, and then on the 15th next month, and thereafter.

IT makes a difference if the payment that is being made on the 30th is for February or January. If it's for January, I would say he has to come up with the $800 unfortunately. If it's for February, then the next payment wouldn't be due until the 15th of March, IMO.

Yeah, this makes sense. Considering it's a personal agreement, he totally has the right to do it gradually if he can't afford to do it any other way.
