If you're team green... 1st few weeks clothes question
So, last time with DS I was team green. I didn't have a baby shower b/c we're Jewish and neither family wanted it so we did a layette at Denny's. My parents and IL's split it. It came out to a fortune. Yes, the clothes are cute, but the layette costed a fortune. The sales lady talks you into getting everything. Yes, it's necessary, but we realized we could've gotten some stuff cheaper elsewhere. Anyway, we had 2 boxes ready to be picked up at Denny's... obviously pink or blue when he was born.
Now we're team again. I have so many adorable things DS only wore once or twice from his layette and we still have some newborn onsies we never opened (DH goes nuts buying in bulk). Question is... what are you doing about a take home outfit and some clothes for the 1st few weeks. Should I get a few more things for a boy, get a bunch for a girl then just return it? Where did you get the layette from? thanks

Re: If you're team green... 1st few weeks clothes question
I bought a neutral coming home outfit. I have a ton of boy things from DS and few neutral things. Honestly, I got a ton of stuff right when DS was born as gifts and I have no intention on buying anything myself until after the baby is born. If we need clothes right away and don't get newborn/0-3 months stuff, I will probably give money to my mom and ask her to pick up stuff. I don't want to buy a ton of yellow and green and don't want to buy boy and girl stuff and then have to make the returns.

What's a layette? Why am I so clueless about everything? It's quite frightening I'm going to be a parent in 4 months. LOL
I'm planning on buying a girl and a boy outfit for on the way home. I also plan on having some outfits ready for the first week or so in both genders. Whatever I don't use I can return.

LOL! DOn't even worry about. Had no clue what it was either. Pretty much a fancier word for the first few outfits. had no clue what that was. My mom and MIL said we should do one at Denny's. There's even a sign for the section saying "layette"

I bought a bunch of outfits and onesies for each sex from carters. They will take back returns as long as you have the receipt. Doesn't matter if it has been months, or a year.
I got enough to get us through the first two weeks and will return whatever set of clothes we don't need.
I really dislike gender neutral clothes and have a carters store nearby so it works for me. Plus I am sure people will bring outfits to the hospital and when they come visit.

Re: If you're team green... 1st few weeks clothes question
To be totally honest, I really am not concerned about clothes at all. I feel like the stores take advantage with the layette idea, of new moms...making you paranoid that you need so much stuff.
The baby will wind up in onesies for the most part in the first few weeks. Family & friends will buy outfits as gifts when the baby comes and DH and my mom will happily go shopping for stuff when the baby is here.
I have only bought one item for the baby because it was just too cute. Besides that, I won't be bothering to buy much at all before the baby comes.

Re: If you're team green... 1st few weeks clothes question
My mom's been buying things here and there since we are Jewish as well and have nothing in the house..all neutral but super cute..she also got a neutral layette from Carter's that she found somewhere and it has all of the basics (hat, etc.)...as for a coming home outfit, I saw a cute yellow duck outfit somewhere, she bought it and has it for when the time comes...once we know what the baby is, we can buy more gender specific clothing, but for what we are doing when we first come home, I don't see the need to go crazy with wardrobe...

Re: If you're team green... 1st few weeks clothes question
I am going to buy a boy and girl take home outfit and use which ever one is appropriate and probably a few sets of new PJs and onsies for the baby-I'll have MIL or Mom wash everything while I'm at the hospital once we know the gender,
I already have a boy and a girl so as for clothes in general, I should be all set but I know I would like a few new things for the new baby.

Re: If you're team green... 1st few weeks clothes question
Of course we have a TON of girl clothes from DD but I think I will buy a new girl coming home outfit and a boy one from carters and return whichever one doesnt work. If we have a boy, some of DD's newborn stuff was gender neutral so I can use that to get through the first few days and after that I am sure gifts will start coming in and I can get my mom to run to the store and pick up some boy onesies and pjs. not too worried about it.

Re: If you're team green... 1st few weeks clothes question
I'm getting take home outfits for both genders. Then for immediately after the baby is home I figure he/she will mostly be in onesies. Someone bought us a couple of neutral onesies and I registered for a set of neutral and a set of white. I think that will cover us. And then once the baby is here I am sure people will buy outfits, especially if it ends up being a girl. If not, I'll give my sister my credit card and tell her to go shopping for me.
