If your parents watch your DC's while you work...
and you do not pay them, do you do anything special for them? My parents watch my kids 1 or 2 days a week for me while I work. They would never let me pay them. Do you do anything special to say thank you?

How about a GC to a restaurant they like?
When my mom stayed over when DS was born for over a week to help out while I recovered from the c-section and to help with the baby DH and I got her a GC to a salon to get a mani/pedi. We didn't have to, but it was just one of those... we appreciate it type of things.
You totally don't have to do anything either. I'm sure they love spending the time with their grandchildren

Before I had DD#1 we had all these plans of getting them a gift cert every month to thank them. Well we never actually did it  but now and then we will treat my ILs to dinner or buy them stuff for their house that they need. We were actually thinking of buying my FIL a snowblower because he is 70 and spent almost 6 hours shovelling last week, but they said they don't have room in their garage or shed for it.

They don't want us to do anything for them. They are helping us out so much, but they insist we don't spend any money on them. We just make sure they have everything they need for our son....food, diapers, clothes, swing, car seat, stroller, etc.
I don't even know if they'd accept gift cards from us. We are so very, very lucky, and I know it too.

MIL watches DS one day a week. Fridays usually.
For a long time we have been having a standing pizza dinner with ILs on Fridays. One week we go to them and p/u the pizza, the next they come to us and pick it up.
Since MIL won't take money, she has - reluctantly - agreed to let us pay for the pizza every week and for the person she has to pay to come in and let her dogs out since they are then left home alone all day.
She complained that then she isn't really saving us money, so DH had to explian to her it wasn't so much the money as the fact that we'd prefer he get to be in his own house w/o other germy kids and get to spend time with his gramma.

The grandfathers are our childcare so I make sure that at birthday time, christmas time and fathers day...they are treated VERY well! They would never accept money from us so we make sure that they get something they really want.

My MIL and mother take turns watching DS. For Christmas I got my MIL and DH massage certificate so that she could spend the day with her son.

my inlaws used to watch DS FT, so we would give them extra cash for mother/fathers day , christmas. like 300.00 which was nothing compared to waht we would have to pay monthly for daycare. they would not take from us otherwise so it had to be on "gift" days

My mom watches DS 3 days a week. It is so incredibly generous. She won't accept $$$, and of course I supply all the food, diapers, etc., but I give MUCH larger gifts at Christmas, bdays, etc. I got her a large flat screen plasma for Christmas and will get her something good for other occasions.
Or else I'll wait a couple years and buy her a new car to thank her.  As someone else said, even more than the money, it's knowing that someone who loves DS as much as I do is taking care of him.

My mil watches dd 3x a week. She absolutely will not take $ so I buy minutes to her phone or will have her stay for dinner or we'lll take her out. If we get her a gift card she's the kind of person who might not use it on herself.
