if your dc rejected the bottle & you eventually got them to take one...?
if your dc rejected the bottle & you eventually got them to take one, how the heck did you do it????
my 4 month old will not take a bottle (he did the first 2 weeks) and i have an AWFUL deep crack on my nipple which will never heel if i don't give my boob a break.
my older ds also wouldn't take a bottle and i ended up nusing him till 13 months so i am 0-2 as of now with bottle loosing to boob big time.
i've tried dif. bottles and nipples. i can only give bm or alimentum formula. my mom and dh have tried giving a bottle. i've even tried giving the boob and then sticking the bottle in his mouth (which worked 2 x for about an ounce but now he won't do that either), i've tried when he's really hungry and when he's not hugry too. he just gets so upset and will only chew on the bottle.
HELP PLZ!

DS refused at first too. We started trying at 4 weeks as I had to go back to work PT at 7 weeks. He would not take a bottle from me at first & I really couldn't even be in the house. DH & my mother just kept trying when they knew he was hungry, but before he became hysterical. Eventually, he caught on that the bottle was feeding him. They both said it took some work & it was frustrating, but evetually, he took the bottle.

I didn't have a problem but I know others that have ... can you try having someone else give your dc a bottle, like dh, mom, etc, dc might smell you and want the boob? Does your dc use a pacifier?? They make a Nuk bottle and my bil cut the nipple out of the pacifier and put in the bottle, almost tricking dc? Hope you are able to get through this quickly!!! Good luck and Many !!!!

Re: if your dc rejected the bottle & you eventually got them to take one...?
I have had the same problem and I actually have just stopped trying the bottle because it is easier. I think DD will take it only if she absolutely has to (she is 6 months and stopped taking it at 4 months). If someone else gives it and DC knows that you are not there.. that might work.
Also, I bought the 1st years soothie training cup. Its a sippy cup but it also comes with a bottle nipple that is the same as the soothie pacifier that DD uses. I haven't tried it with milk, but she has been practicing with water and she doesn't push it away and cry like with the bottle.
I did a lot of searches about this a few weeks ago and it seems that it just takes practice. Trying only when the baby is in a good mood and not starving and trying a little at a time. If baby gets upset, stop and try again when they are come... I know how frustrating it can be!

Re: if your dc rejected the bottle & you eventually got them to take one...?
If you figure this out please let me know. My DD#2 won't take a bottle (she is 11 weeks old) and I am too uncomfortable BFing in public so it is really hard for us. She gags and chokes whenever I try. I have tried every bottle out there and tons of techniques so far none have worked.
DD#1 took a bottle in the beginning then stopped for 10 weeks around 16 weeks. I just kept trying - my ped recommended trying 1 ounce of fruit flavored pedialyte in the bottle and seeing if they take that then switching back to formula or pumped milk. He says if they are hungry enough they take one; however, that doesn't seem to work here with us.

My ped told me that my husband had to be the one to give it and that I should take a day off and go out. He was right. My dh got her to takeit while I was at the salon.

I dind't have an issue with DS taking the bottle however I had a very hard time BFing in the beginning. This is a PAIN IN THE YOU KNOW WHAT, but just t give your boob a break why don't you try feeding him with a medicine dropper? Like I said its a pain and it will take forever, but at least you can give yourself a break. That's the only advice I can give you.

If you're really desperate, try feeding him with a medicine dropper (either the syringe or spoon). I used the BreastFlow bottle but ds didn't really take to it until about 6 mos

Re: if your dc rejected the bottle & you eventually got them to take one...?
We had to try a number of things before my DD would take one. In the begginning she would scream when I was at work because she was so hungry but would still refuse the bottle. We figured out that she would only take a bottle if I was not in the house, if the milk was VERY warm and if she wasn't really, really hungry. My mom also would give her the bottle in the swing which seemed to help for some reason. When she was somewhat distracted it seemed easier to give her the bottle. We also used fast nipples so that she got a few ounces in before she realized what she was doing. People kept saying that when she got hungry enough she would take it but, she tortured those taking care of her for two weeks before it finally worked.
