if your DC is 2 + do you use a beach tent?
Something similar to this?
I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to get & for how many years I'd be able to use it for.

I bought one when Cai was a baby and never used it - it was a waste of money. It gets so bleeping hot in there, that they are protected from the sun but could die of heat stroke 
He would never have stayed in it after learning to crawl or walk. Get a big umbrella instead... Trust me!!!

I also bought one and never used it.
I agree that an umbrella is the way to go. And lots of sunscreen.

ah, good to know. DH is going to kill me if I make him carry a huge umbrella down the beach.

Gotta go with the umbrella. As the PP said... they get super hot. You bake in them
What about renting one at the beach

nope, never used one, and we went to the beach almost every weekend. We had an umbrella and DS never even sat under that. We were diligent about keeping sunblock on him and that was fine.

we bought one when DS was a baby and only used it then, ever since we just use an umbrella, most of the time at the beach we are in the water or playing in the sand so I doubt he would stay in there for more than a few minutes since he is too interested in everything else around him at this age.

We have one of those and my kids do use it to hang out/nap at the beach, but last year we invested in the Sport-brella and its great! We are huge beach people and we spend every weekend there and this gives us a lot of shade and blocks the wind when it is breezy.Sport-brella
