 | If your child has reflux and is on medication How long did it take you to get the doctor to prescribe it. One of the girls refux is getting bad. We were told try Mylicon...did NOTHING, At the last visit they said try Mylanta which worked for maybe a dose or two and now does nothing. She now is so uncomfortable and finds it hard to sleep on her back She needs help and I don't know when the doctor is going to take this a little more seriously. |

 | Re: If your child has reflux and is on medication Dr. put DS on it almost right away, prob the 1st or 2nd visit. Is she on special formula? Also, elevation helps - DS basically was upright 24/7 until he was about 6 months old |

 | Re: If your child has reflux and is on medication It took time.... keep harassing them. In the meantime, change the formula and don't let her sleep flat. Poor baby |

 | Re: If your child has reflux and is on medication immediately. I would recommend you also make an appointment with a GI specialist. The fact that your ped isn't listening to you and prescribed MYLICON for reflux is ABSURD!!!
I hope your baby gets relief! I would push for Prevacid

cut all dairy out of your system. ASAP.... it could be a milk protein allergy as well which many times goes hand in hand with reflux.

ALexa SCREAMED the first 12 weeks of life.. it was HORRENDOUS. DH and I would sit on the couch and pass her back and forth while she just SCREAMED.......

You can try co-sleeping which helped us immensely when I finally tried it at 5 weeks. Here is a link to some wonderful information on the BENEFITS of co-sleeping and how to do it safely.

reflux babies are high needs. THey need to constantly be held and be comforted since they are in pain so often. Even at 9 mos, with her reflux pretty well managed Alexa needs to be held a lot.

There is hope... it can get better with proper management but you have to be AGGRESSIVE with doctors. I didn't ASK my doctors to do things... I called and told them what my child needed and I was lucky that I had wonderful physicians who were receptive and understood and valued my thoughts and intuitions as a mother.

Once we got Alexa on Prevacid she was a brand new child...... SHe finally srtarted sleeping and started smiling and stopped screaming all the time.

FM me if you ever have ques... I've been there. ALexa has one of the worse cases of Acid reflux the DR.s at Yale have seen...

I would see if the doc would put heron special formula...any other issues like watery foul smelling poop or bloody stool? DS was a preemie and was awfully gassy , etc on the breast milk. AFter several attempts at changing my diet, the NICU put him on allimentum...he wound up having a milk protein allergy.

 | Re: If your child has reflux and is on medication It was offered quickly after I kept calling the Ped with issues. We were quickly referred to a GI doc (I made it known that I basically wanted to see a specialist) who gave us the option of Zantac on day 1. We initially didn't put him on it but we started it on Wednesday.
I will say the GI doc left it up to us as he wasn't sure my DS had reflux but after lots of reading these last few days, I'm convinced he does. At my next appmt i'm basically going to diagnose him myself and if the zantac isn't working well enough, have them change it.

Sometimes you have to tell them what you want and go in there armed with info. ONe book i read said that you should record your baby crying if that's what it takes for the doctor to take you seriously.

 Good luck.

 | Re: If your child has reflux and is on medication She see a speech therapist who observed her before, during and after a feed and thought it was reflux. As for the milk allergy I am not really eating dairy at all. It just breaks my heart |

 | Re: If your child has reflux and is on medication I would consult with a ped. GI....We see Dr. Gold n Babylon and love him!
Our LO needed prescription formula and meds to finally get relief. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out the best way to treat the reflux, whih is why I highly recommend seeing a specialist. They are the experts in all digestive issues.

 Good Luck!!

 | Re: If your child has reflux and is on medication My DS is 6 weeks, and we just started Zantac. I haven't noticed a difference so far, so I am hoping I do soon. He also has big issues with straining to poop, and when he finally does it is liquid, so I don't get it? But, I just keep calling the pediatrician and am hoping we find a way to give him some relief soon. Good Luck. |
