If your baby had reflux...
What worked for your DC?
DS is on Zantac 2x a day and Gentlease. He is pretty miserable and doesn't nap so well. He just turned 6 weeks. Is there an end in sight???

Re: If your baby had reflux...
Sleeping in the RNP gave me sanity..DS would wake up choking/coughing while sleeping at night...so we switched him to RNP which worked wonders...he would also scream if he was flat on back due to reflux...he was on zantac for a week or so and did not do well at all...was very uncomfortable and grunted...doc switched to pepcid and it made a huge difference...he was on his 3rd formula which we just recently learned that he had a milk protein allergy...once I put him on alimentum...reflux got much better...not sure if it is combo of formula and meds..or if he is just outgrowing it..since he is 15 weeks old.
My advice would be using something on and incline for naps like swing. rnp. or bouncy....I also placed a wedge under activity mat..so he would be comfortable and keeping LO in an upright postition for 20-30 min after each feeding..and frequent burping..every 2 oz. Someone also warned me against using car seat..something about placing too much pressure on belly, which didn't help reflux situation.
Hope that helps....good luck.

Re: If your baby had reflux...
Only time really helped. My DS was on Axid and had oatmeal in his formula (recommended by the GI we were seeing). But once he started sitting up things got better (maybe around 5months).
Until then it was just annoying. And he did cry a lot. It will pass though. Now he's a funny and (usually) happy 12M old. No more spitting up!!

Re: If your baby had reflux...
Yes, this will get better! My little man was miserable for almost a year with silent reflux. He was on prescription formula and Zantac 3x a day and was still suffering.
I was obviously upset and hated medicating my DS so I began doing a lot of research and found that others had been helped by pediatric chiropractic care. I had never been to one but figured it was a natural alternative so we tried it. We were then finally able to wean DS off his medication. We had seen ENT's, pediatricians and gastrointestinal specialists. I am now a believer in chiropractic care. Babies can be cared for by ped. chiropractors from the day they are born! The whole philosophy/approach makes a lot of sense.

Re: If your baby had reflux...
prevacid worked in conjunction with zantac. Keep him upright after he eats for a bit and try to elevate when sleeping. Laying flat hurts them! It is tough, but it gets better!

Re: If your baby had reflux...
We stopped Zantac completly as it only made my DD more miserable. She sat up in the chair to sleep and we added oatmeal to every bottle and food she ate. Helped alot! Also when it was really bad we used Mylanta and that worked better than zantac. As most doctors will tell you it's trial and error which medicaine will work, but we wound up finding the non-prescription ones were better than the alternatives.

Re: If your baby had reflux...
DS has acid reflux. He is on zantac 3x a day and I have been giving him the powder similac spit up formula. He is spitting up less and seems happier. He has a cranky period every night from about 6-9 where nothing helps. We have also had him sleeping in his bouncer seat so he's upright more and that seemed to help as well. Maybe talk to your doctor about a different formula. My ped also told me once they start eating from a spoon the acid reflux lessens so Im counting the days until he can have baby food! GL
