If you work with kids, teachers bus drivers etc. ...
Can you tell me. Do you honestly expect end of year gifts, christmas teacher appreciation week etc?
Do you judge parents that don't  treat kids differently that don't. 
just wondering if the pressure and stress that some parents put on themselves for these occasions is really necessary.
How many parents realistically send in something not including class collections?
ETA: I just want to clarify I really don't think and would hope no one would treat a kid differently if a child does not give a gift. I was just joking. I really just want to know how many people are really sending in gifts. Is it really everyone, maybe half ...

Gifts were not expected, and honestly, where I worked they weren't even the norm. I would never ever treat the children differently based on whether or not their parents gave gifts. It was nice to feel appreciated and to know that mybhard work did not go unnoticed, but a heartfelt thank you note can do that even more effectively than a gift.

I was a teacher many years ago and while I sometimes received gifts from parents, it was never expected though always appreciated. I never treated a child differently because of it.

I've never expected gifts. At my current school, I don't typically receive anything. At my previous school, I received Holliday, teacher appreciation, and end of year gifts.
I've NEVER treated a student differently based on getting, or not getting a gift.
I honestly appreciate a handwritten notes from parents over a physical gift.

you are probably right.  but I can't add it now and really I don't think or I would hope not any teacher would treat a child differently.
I am more wondering if they really get a gift from almost everyone or not really.
When I was growing up I can't remember ever really giving gifts. I def. Didn't in high school pretty sure not in middle school.
IN elementary school no idea but thinking not, not sure if my mom didn't care, didn't have the money or it just wasn't done then.

I would think that most teachers don't expect anything. If I were a teacher, depending on the district that I worked in, I might feel guilty accepting gifts from my students. Teachers are paid well (at least in most LI public schools) and it's possible that their students' parents make less money than the teachers.

When I taught at the elementary level I got lots of gifts. It wasn't expected, I certainly was thankful but never kept track (aside from writing a thank you note) let alone treated anyone differently.
At the high school level I got very few. Usually some holiday cards and candy canes and maybe a box of chocolates or something along those lines at the end of the year. Never got gifts for teacher appreciation week from individuals but it was acknowledged by the principal and PTA. At times I got very thoughtful gifts from students or groups that I advised in clubs, anything from handmade shadow boxes to personalized jewelry or holiday ornaments from groups of students that chipped in together. Again, vey much appreciated but never expected and I never would have thought anything of not getting something.
DH use to get a handful of coffee gift cards or chocolates from his middle schoolers. The vast majority don't give anything. Now he's at the high school and I don't recall him getting anything.

SO it looks like middle school and elementary school parents ARE "expected" to give gifts. But once you get to High School no one gives gifts then?
I think its crazy to see the pressure all of you are put under to give gifts!

I taught middle school and though I did occasionally receive a gift, it was seldom. Many of the children I taught came from low income environments. Personally, I think that any teacher who would treat someone differently based on who gives a gift should rethink their careeer choice.

I don't think that's the case at all. Just bc in some schools many choose to doesn't mean teachers 'expect' gifts at the younger levels. If a parent wants to show their appreciation with a gift that's great, if they want to show it with a nice card that's great, if they want to show it with an email cc'd to the principal that's great, with a handmade picture from the child that's great, with a heartfelt verbal thank you on the last day that's great, etc. Teachers are not in the profession for material gifts, that's just silly. They're not judging parents who don't give gifts.
I make decisions based on my feelings on the person at the time. For my kids' therapists I've done nice gifts for some and a quick verbal thanks for others depending on how they were. Same with teachers. Not a huge fan of dd's teacher this year but I got something small bc there was no collection and I want dd to see my appreciation for her teacher regardless of my personal feelings. I would have no issue giving a simple thank you card with nothing in it for a teacher I didn't like just so dd had something to give.

Nope. I'm a HS teacher, and we almost never get gifts from students.
However, DH is an elementary school teacher and he gets tons of gifts at Christmas and a few from the graduating 6th graders at the end of the year. He's so appreciative, as it lets us treat ourselves to DD or Starbucks (DH loves Starbucks)
