If you work from home

What is your childcare arrangement? I work 50% from home and it's difficult to get a lot done with DD home.

We put her in daycare, which is really the ideal arrangement except we're not happy with how that is going for a variety of reasons.

Our only other option is a babysitter, but I'm not sure how that would work if I'm home, I feel like it would be kind of awkward.

We don't have family to watch her.

Thoughts/opinions/suggestions?

ETA: She's 6 months old

Re: If you work from home

I work part time from home, but usually winds up being a bit more.

My boys are 7 and almost 5. I put more hours in when they're at school. I also run my errands when they're at school too. LOL

When they're home bc of school breaks or in the summer between camp I just put less hours in and do some stuff at night. For things I can't avoid the Ipad, TV or sending them to play in the basement works. It's not ideal bc they wind up being on the Ipad too long, but it's what works when I need it to and have to get things done.

I have full time childcare 9-5. Wouldn't be able to get anything done otherwise. My DS is 16 months.

My kids are in daycare full time, including when I work from home. In the beginning, when DS 1 was an infant, he only went to daycare part time and would be home with my DH or inlaws while I worked and I found it really distracting.

I work from home as needed. But my DS has always been in daycare. The reason I work from home is to avoid the commute certain days and if I have a drs appt etc.

IMO working from home does not mean you get to work and watch your kids at the same time. There would be next to zero work getting done.

I work from home at least 1 day a week, but my children are in day care. I can't be productive, take phone calls, etc with my children at home.

If I'm working from home and the kids are home (being watched by my mom or MIL), I literally have to lock myself in another room so the kids forget I'm there. Otherwise, there's a definite loss in productivity.

I've done both options: in home babysitter and LO going to daycare. Either way, I've always had full time childcare while working at home, otherwise I can't actually work. Under 12-18 months, me being in the same house as LO with the babysitter wasn't that big of a deal for LO, but certainly was distracting at times for me because I could hear everything going on and sometimes had a hard time separating myself from micro-managing certain aspects of the day, especially when LO was a baby. As LO got older and cared more about whether mommy was in the room or not, it got trickier to keep LO home with a babysitter while I worked. My preference after a year old was to send LO to daycare full time, but occasionally use a babysitter at home and make it work.

Thanks. Taking care of her while working is not an option. I did that from 12 weeks to 5.5 months and it was a nightmare. That's when we put her in daycare, but I've had to take so much time off since she's started daycare due to illness that I was actually getting more work done with her home.

The sick period at daycare gets better I promise. Every kid gets sick a lot when they first go because they are being exposed to so much more. But if you can ride it out their immune systems are crazy strong!!!
