If you were evacuating because you lived in a REALLY bad zone and could go anywhere within an hour or two of NYC- where would you think was safest?

A place with high elevation?

Something in NJ? (Not the shore obviously) or nearby PA?

Consider traffic? Belt pkwy to NJ or through Manhattan- oy!

Upstate NY?

We have no one to stay with so it would be a hotel- anywhere we wanted/ could reasonably get to.

TIA

My BIL is saying that Staten Island is safer than LI. I have no idea.

Take a look at Kellys map, anything within 2 hrs is going to get hit (north, south, east and west)

Thanks for the replies.

I checked out the map and we settled on PA- basically 2 hours straight west of where we live on the Queens/Bk border.

I think that's as far as we can do with a full car of craziness.

We're trying to make a little vacation out of it- well if the hurricane doesn't really pan out to totally devastate our home town that is b/c I'd be a little too upset to party, lol.

This storm right now is over 400 miles in width. Im not sure that any place 2 hours away will really be better? i was thinking of going up to Albany but it shows the storm going right up the hudson in a couple models. IDK :(

Yeah- I hear you on that Chat Icon but I live in a Flood Zone A- so I'm thinking ANYWHERE else has got to be better!

I was considering the Matawan/Aberdeen area as opposed to southshore LI since we have family there....

Just be prepared for tunnel flooding and bridge damage. You might get off the Island but getting back on might be another story...just sayin'

Honestly, its going to be bad probably everywhere within 2 hours of us. I'd stay in a hotel in central LI that way I know I could get back home when the storm is over.
