 | if you tried for a VBAC? (poll) if you tried for a VBAC what were your reasons?
 was it successful?

if so, was it easier or harder than the c-section?

i'm having second thoughts about a repeat section.

 thanks!

I think a lot depends on the reason for your C-section. She had her C-section because her son was breech.

No my other friend had a C-section because she wasn't progressing and her baby went into distress and wouldn't descend. She was told that she was not a good candidate for a VBAC.

 | Re: if you tried for a VBAC? (poll) I met another mom this week at a playdate.
 She just moved from Dallas...

when she had her 4 yr old, she labored and dialated fully...cord was around baby's neck, so they rushed her to an emergency c-section.

with her 2 year old, she did a VBAC AT HOME! with a midwife. she said in dallas, its no problem at all, that they are very progressive.

now, she is preggo, moved to charlotte 2 months ago. Drives 55 minutes out of her way to see the only midwife around. She can't believe its such a big deal here and flipped when I told her about my c-section.

If I were a good candidate, I would have a vaginal birth. I am not sure if I am or not though...my dr said I can take that pipe dream somewhere else.

I wanted a VBAC because there was absolutely no reason I needed a repeat c/s - and honestly, the thought of another major surgery with a toddler at home was not sitting well with me (although DH is more than capable of holding down the fort without me). My #1 was a c/s because he was breech. It had nothing to do with his size.

Yes, I was successful. DD was born by VBAC, almost exactly, to the day, 2 years after my first c/s.

I know that a second c/s is usually easier, etc. but let me tell you that having the v-birth was 1000x easier. I felt so great after that I wanted to walk from the L&D room to my recovery room, but they wouldn't let me

Don't get me wrong, the v-birth was 3 hours of pushing, a small tear (a stitch or two) and I felt like I still had a bowling ball between my legs for up to a week later (I was sitting on the boppy instead of using it to breastfeed!), but overall, a far better experience.

There are a ton of reasons why you wouldn't be a good candidate - and yes, they are based on your first labor. Like if you had a stalled labor or any other issues, they generally don't make for a good candidate.

Any other questions, feel free to FM. I know vbac does not get a lot of support overall.

 | Re: if you tried for a VBAC? (poll) my second daughter was a VBAC and i had a a great delivery very diffrent from a C/S My first dd was born a few weeks early and i tried to delivery naturally and never progressed further than 3 cm. so i had to get a C/S. my last 2 were c/s beacuse my 3rd DD went into distress and then my 4th dd they said after 2 c/s they did not want to try and deliver vaginally. even though i complained profusely.
the only perk to having a schedlued c/s is the fact that you can plan a little better if you have other kids. (sitters etc. ) but even then even you may go into spontanous labor and you cant control that!
