If you switched from BM to formula, or supplemented
How did you do it?
I had to stop giving pumped BM last week and switch to formula due to an abcess in my breast. I was putting 1oz of formula with 3oz of BM in each bottle. After a week I went to 2oz of each. Next week I planned to go to 1oz of BM with 3oz of formula and then to all formula. When I spoke to DD's ped today (due to possible constipation) he said that he didn't recommend combining the BM and the formula in the same bottle. He said at this point I should just be giving 3 bottles of all BM and 3 bottles of all formula, or give 2oz of BM then 2oz of formula at each feeding. I don't see what the big deal is with combining the 2 in the same bottle. Does it really make a difference?

I combined and didn't have a problem. My ped said it was fine.

Sorry, just to clarify - you did it the way I'm doing it or the way my ped said to do it?

I did it the way you are doing it..and that is how I transitioned my oldest to milk. Why would that be a bad thing? The only thing maybe is bc then you dont know the full effect the formula may have on dc belly bc it is not a full bottle??

I didn't mix the two...not that my ped said not to (I never asked)...I replaced one bottle/nursing session with a bottle of formula. Over a few months (4) I weaned from BM to formula by replacing an additional feeding every few weeks/month or so. DS did great with it and is now fully formula-fed at 7+ months.
