If you split up your dc's vaccinations...

Does your dr charge a fee for splitting shots?

We split dd1s shots and never once had a fee. I did one or two shot at a time and came back a month later for the rest so she wouldn't have them all at once.

Doing the same for dd2 and just left her 2 month appt. they told me there is a $20 admin charge for splitting the shots. Dr tried to tell me this was always the practice and I must have gotten lucky I didn't pay this for dd1. And that most drs charge.

So if you also do this does your dr charge?

If it is not a regular wellness visit per insurance guidelines we have to pay a co-pay

Tx. See I don't pay copays ever. Even if it's a sick visit or anything. This is a straight up admin charge from the office. Not having anything to do with my insurance.

I have copays for all my visits. But I don't pay any extra admin fee for splitting up shots. That would piss me off enough to switch drs!

We don't pay co pays for vaccines and we don't pay anything extra for splitting the vaccines. My twins are getting their second dose of MMR today and my youngest his first. The other vaccines they are due for will wait until next month and we won't be charged for them

That would totally annoy me - there is no reason for them to do that.

P got the pentacil shot at her 8 week appointment and they had me make an appointment for when she's 10 weeks to get more vaccines. As far as I know they are not charging me extra.

Yep that's what they're trying to do.

I'm going to have them bill it as a regular visit through insurance. I'm entitled to 12 well visits a year until age 3. F that.

yes I was so confused I paid it. But then I switched drs office after a few more stupid things lol. So I just wanted to be done with them. But def see if they can do that. This office is out for money though b/c we had like 2 rechecks on something but b/c I saw the dr then had to charge me. if I saw a nurse they wouldn't have. its just stupid. I'm not sure about this new practice and their crazy rules yet but so far they are much better. Only after money some of these places

Nope. And we don't pay copays for well visits, and that's what they consider vaccination appointments.

#1 if that is nothing to do with your insurance and just an office policy, then there should be something in writing that they give you BEFORE.

#2 you can call your insurance to complain. Since he is a participating provider by law he is not allowed to charge you for an administration fee.

Re: If you split up your dc's vaccinations...

i thought because of the obama care all insurance had to follow no co-pay for preventive visits which i think includes the immunizations not positive

that's prob why the office is making you pay an ADMIN fee
they have to get money somehow
that's CRAP

My ped office charges $25 for a vaccination visit. I don't pay a co-pay on top of that though.

To clarify this is NOT a copay charge. It is a straight up admin fee from the office itself.

We pay a lot of money to have the best insurance and we do not have any copays. Ever.

That is wrong in my opinion for the office to charge you an admin fee. My office does not charge you for splitting up vaccines.
