If you shop at Costco or BJs ...

Do you really save more than a regular supermarket? If so, how much?

Eh... it's like a supermarket where the price per quantity is always a sale price. You could get the same (or better) deals by waiting for 'real' sales in the supermarket - but sometimes it's just worth it to have it on hand. For example.. chicken breasts are 2.49 per pound at Costco and they are usually over 3.99/lb at the supermarket. A normal sale at the supermarket is between 2.49 and 2.99/lb WHEN they are on sale. You can get them on sale for 1.99/lb at the supermarket.. but you have to wait until they go on sale and then go to the store where they are on sale and buy some extraordinary amount, re-package and seal them to freeze. With Costco you pay a little more than a REALLY good sale but they come packaged in individual (2 per) packets and you have them in the freezer when you need them instead of waiting for the sale.

Plus there are things I just prefer to have in bulk and some things I can only seem to find at Costco or BJ's.

Exactly this. You have to be careful because many things are in large sizes. If you don't use it all/it goes bad and you throw it out, then you really haven't saved money.

I find it best for things I know we are going to use in pretty big quantities - I go to BJ's because they have the antibiotic-free meats. I get good deals on chicken, beef, pork, etc. This is the primary reason I am a member.

I find their produce is too large of quantity so I usually only buy if I am hosting a party.

I also like to get cleaning supplies there and have gotten some good household items - glass storage containers, a scale, etc.

I go once every month and a half/two months. I couldn't use this as my only store.

You have to do your research and be aware of how much things cost at the supermarket!

I love Costco because I can get lots of great American products I can't get elsewhere, and I find their Kirkland products to be of fantastic quality, but its only a savings if you know how much stuff costs in the supermarket!

Coercion is so much cheaper especially for organic items. Shop rite is the only store that sells organic meats outside of whole foods and costco is so much cheaper. Organic salad, fruit and veggies are much cheaper as well
