If you qualified for early intervention....
How soon after you made the initial call did therapy start?

If you qualified for early intervention....
DD started EI at the end of September. I called at the end of July I believe. They have a set number of days from the time you call to have the evaluation done (I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong. It might be a set number of days to have the meeting.). We had a meeting at the beginning of August to choose an evaluating agency and then our initial meeting to go over DDs therapy plan was the beginning of September.

Wow it takes over a month? They said someone would call me within 5-7 days but if he qualifies I'd like him to start right away

If you qualified for early intervention....
It started about 2 weeks after he qualified. Did you have your initial appt with your coordinator? After you call EI they assign you a coordinator. The coordinator calls you and sets up an appt to come to your house (or, you may have to go to them now) then they ask you a few questions, fill out a few forms, go over the whole process and then you pick an agency. They agency will call you to set up an evaluation appt and then i believe it was 2 weeks after he was approved that DS started therapy. So about a month maybe a little less from the time I called EI, DS started physical therapy. It's a process.

I think a lot of it will depend on your coordinator. Mine is out of the office a lot, so it's usually a scramble to get things done before the deadline. And it depends on what services your DC qualifies for and how easily they can find a therapist. My DD receives OT and therapists are hard to come by. I just requested a change in therapists and it took 4 different agencies before they could find me one who was available. And btw, I requested the change in early April. I'm still waiting for everything to be approved so the new therapist can start.

No, I just called the EI # and gave them my info. I guess it's the coordinator that will call me within 5-7 days.

If you qualified for early intervention....
You call and from that point on the coordinator calls you and either comes to you or you go to their office. (This can happen between a 1-2 wks after you call depending on their schedule)
Then from there you discuss at that meeting what your concerns are and how you would like them evaluated. Then you contact a therapy service. They set up an appointment to come by and evaluate your child. From that point they have to send their evaluation to the coordinator and from there the coordinator will approve it and set up the number of sessions your child will need.
Then the organization who evaluated will contact to set up sessions and start form there. It requires a good amount of paperwork and person 1 talking to person 2, etc. So it's not like you call and within a week your child receives services.
They do the best they can but between all the calls and appointments and approvals it can take a few weeks.

A few weeks. I was expecting it to take much longer since they had warned it could be a while. But everyone that needed to meet with us did so quickly so services were able to start sooner.

You will get a call from EIOD at the County and you will need to pick an Agency. The sooner the Evaluators schedule the better. Once evaluations are completed you will have the IFSP meeting. If your DC qualifies, services start 2 weeks after the IFSP in Suffolk and now in Nassau, they can start as soon as a week. . Nassau County is in the process of changing all start dates due to the new NYEIS system. Your Ongoing Service Coordinator will be able to set everything up for you. FM me if you have any questions.

Waiting to get the initial meeting took the longest. I think I waited about a month to get the meeting. (Pat Med school district) Once they approved having her evaluated, it moved pretty quick after that.

we've been through EI, CPSE and now CSE...
with EI (unless things have changed since 2008) we made the initial call to Marion Solomon, they called me back that same day, and told me they would have a service coordinator from nassau county contact me... that took another day. SC came to visit me 5 days later ( we are now at 7 days) we set up evaluations (another 5-7 days for the whole shebang) 14 days... set our IFSP meeting 30 days from the day that she contacted me.
so all in all 30 business days. after the IFSP meeting 1-2 two weeks for services to start
