If you have a nanny, do you have back up?
I need to think about getting a back up babysitter for weekend nights and random days the nanny doesnt/cant work for us. If you have someone like that, how did you find them? How does it work that they can come in at a moment's notice?

we don't have backup, but i did ask every nanny we interviewed if they have someone they call to fill in as their backup if they're sick or can't come for some reason at the last minute. a lot of them did have someone that helped them out. it happens that the woman we hired does not have someone, but my DH and i have fairly flexible work situations so we could likely cover.

We don't have a backup. Most nannies are working, so they aren't available as backup. And if they aren't working, there's probably a reason they haven't gotten hired IMO. When the nanny calls in sick DH or I have to stay home. Once in a while MIL has been able to take a day off for us, too. It's not ideal, but no childcare situation is.

My mom fills in. It's not the best... as commented above.

I have 3 sitters for my twins. 2 of them I have known many years. One I used care.com to find. Between the 3 of them, I can usually have coverage, but it is not 100%, sometimes I just have to take the day.

Re: If you have a nanny, do you have back up?
We use preschool teachers for evenings and weekends but they aren't back up for work hours.
This year, we were lucky because grandparents happened to be visiting during some days the boys were sick or it was a snow day. I brought my kid to work for a few hours one day and DH was off for 2 of the snow days.
I reached out to a few stay at home mom friends and they agreed to watch the boys if it was a snow day. We are out of luck if it is a sick day.
