If you had your DS's circ redone-
Why did it have to be redone and at what age can it be redone?

DS is having his circ re-done on February 1st (he will be a day shy of 11 months) DS was a preemie. WHen it was done originally they told us he had excess skin and that we had to keep pulling it down and eventually it would stay. I took him to a urologist over the summer because of a recommendation by our ped. I took him and the urologist said he had a lot of fluid and was swollen down there. He wanted to wait a few more months before we even talked surgery. We just took him back because there is still excess skin and he barely looks like he was circumcised. So the urologist scheduled the surgery for Feb 1st.

I always wonder why the OBGYN does it to begin with and not a urologist. How old was he when you first took him to the urologist?

My DS just had his done for the first time at 11 months. I loved the Urologist. let me know if you need a rec.
His has healed perfectly and I truly beleive Urologist should be doing them not an OB. Not the reason we waited but I am glad I did.
And DS was not in pain after the day of. Which is what I really worried about. Kids are amazing when they are young...they heal so fast.

I was told by the ped that DS might need it redone, at 12m the ped had us take him bc they felt it might need to be redone. Urologist pulled skin back that had reattached in his office and it is fine now, did not have to be redone. Dr. Diamond in Plainview and I highly recommend him.

I always wonder the same thing!
DS needed his circ redone at 11 months because it was reattaching & not enough skin was taken off. He also had another issue of his urethra opening being too narrow. The Urologist told me that had he done the orignial circ & birth, he would have noticed the small urethra opening & corrected it right then & there at birth. BUT, since my OB did his circ, it wasn't noticed & DS had to go under anesthesia at 11 months. When my second son was born, I did not allow him to be circ by my OB, I went straight to the urologist.
Also, I was told that the OB's do not use any pain meds but the urologists do use a numbing cream. He put the cream on ds & we waited 30 min before he could circ so that the cream could take effect.

My OB did my sons circ...I think there is still a lot of skin left. The ped thinks it's fine. DS hasn't had any serious issues, but I did and still do pull back the skin during diaper changes. The OB did use the numbing cream...I saw the nurse putting it on him.

I guess some obs use it & some don't. The OB office that I work for does not use the cream & I have no idea if my personal OB used one my ds.

I took him to the urologist for the first time at about 5 months on the recommendation by our ped. My ped did not do my DS circ. DS was a preemie so he was in the nicu for 66 days so one of the doctors at the hospital did it before DS came home. DS just had the re-circ done a week ago and it looks great! DS was fine with the anesthesia and he didn't seem to much in pain. They gave him tylenol with codeine but I just stuck with regular tylenol. That seemed to do the trick. He was up playing around that day. The only thing is they put a block on him so his legs would be numb so they told us not to let him pull himself up on things bc he wouldn't have full strength. The next day he was crawling around and pulling himself up like nothing happened.

Not sure when we went to the urologist but he wanted DS to be at least a year because of the anesthesia, but as soon as possible after that. DS had the surgery at 15 months. It was a very quick procedure. The tough part was that DS could not have anything to eat or drink before the surgery and it was hard to see him come out of the anesthesia. He handled it like a champ though. We went to Dr. Gitlin and he was AMAZING! I HIGHLY recommend him!
