If you go to someone's house for dinner and you don't like what they serve.
Do you tell the person or just eat a little? Yesterday I went to my aunt's house for dinner. My aunt served small chicken legs and a few vegetables. The veggies were great, but I can't eat chicken legs. I also hate dark meat. I cut a few pieces off the bone and my aunt got offended that I didn't eat more. My aunt is almost 80 and I realize some older people get offended, but I feel that I did the right thing but just eating a little.

I would have done the same as you. And explained that I just don't like chicken legs, but the veggies were delicious if they would have questioned me.

I think what you did was ok. I entertain often & I don't expect all my gusets to love everything I make every time.

i would rather choke down a little than risk hurting their feelings. i would definitely go with the excuse that your lunch isn't sitting well with you - that's gotten me through an inedible meal several times

This is my excuse as well.
To be honest, I have a pretty weak stomach and I'm an extremely picky eater. If I don't like something, I CAN'T eat it. I'll get sick.

I agree-- I always tell ppl that I had a big lunch and my stomach's not feeling that great. I'm one of the world's pickiest eaters unfortunately...

I do the same thing. I eat a little and then let the host know that my stomach has not been feeling well.

Re: If you go to someone's house for dinner and you don't like what they serve.
i'll try to eat whatever is served, even if it's just a little. But i don't eat meat, so if meat is being served I won't eat it... that's the one instance when I won't just eat something to spare feelings.

Re: If you go to someone's house for dinner and you don't like what they serve.
I try to eat at least a little aso and I tell the cook how great it is. If they ask why I'm not eating more I'll say I had a big lunch or my stomach is upset and so on, but I ALWAYS try to eat a little. If it's an allergy or a huge food issue I will not eat it, but for the most part I have a healthy appetite and eat lots

that's what i would do too....have a few pieces and say "ooo--my stomach isn't feeling very well"
sometimes an extended trip to the bathroom can help the story. lol

Re: If you go to someone's house for dinner and you don't like what they serve.
It happens to me a lot since I don't like most meat and am very picky with other foods too.
Mostly everyone knows by now (so they always have chicken for me, lol), but I usually just say that I don't eat that type of meat. Then I just eat a lot of the other food that is served.

I know people who often use fake allergies as an excuse not to eat something. Won't try that again. At a seder, I made the mistake of telling the Rabbi I was allergic to Gefilte fish. When they asked if I was allergic to all fish, I said no just Gefilte (of course, not knowing Gefilte fish was just a mixture of ground fish ) Good thing he had a sense of humor & a lot of understanding for the shiksa.

For my 80 year old aunt, I would have tried to eat a little and then hid the rest in my napkin for later disposal

I usually just don't eat. I dont eat much at other peoples houses anyway. I am a very picky eater so i normally dont eat anywere else unless i know what they are cooking before hand.

Re: If you go to someone's house for dinner and you don't like what they serve.
I eat what I like.
I don't want to waste it by eating a bite or two...usually I'll give my portion to my dh.
I try to be offensive in the outset and ask the host what's on the menu...this way I can let them know early on if I am going to eat...or I offer to bring something I know I like.
I have too many food issues...which thankfully my friends/family know and accept.
