If you flew with an infant seat?
I'll be leaving tomorrow for Disney and trying to decide what to do about a carseat. I'm def taking my own and decided to take the infant seat. If I take the convertible like I wanted to it counts as a piece of luggage...which sucks. If I take the infant seat I can gate check it with the stroller.
OK...my issue is the base. I have NEVER used the seat without it. According to the manual that came with the Chicco it can be used without. I'm scared to death to do this. I'm assuming it has to be safe or they wouldn't say you can do it but I just don't know what to do. If I bring the base what do I do with it on the plane?
Has anyone used it without the base?

Re: If you flew with an infant seat?
When we went to Disney in June we used the infant seat. We used the snap and go and checked the frame at the gate and brought the infant seat onto the plane. The flight attendent actually showed us how to buckle the infant seat in. And while we were in Disney we used the seat without the base the entire time and didn't have any problems.

I never used the base with DS #1 b/c he was in the middle of the backseat and it tipped over once.

OK...I guess it is ok?!?! I don't know why this is freaking me out so much...i'm actually scared to do it. The seatbelt only goes through the slots right...there's nothing else holding it in?

I didn't get him his own seat. I wonder if it could be considered a carry on?

you can only use the base if you've bought him a seat. Would you be able to pack the base if you don't feel comfortable having him in the car without it?
And yes the straps just go through the slots on the side.

Re: If you flew with an infant seat?
We are leaving tomorrow to Florida too! Maybe I'll see you at the airport. We actually rented a car with a car seat, but am having second thoughts and am now considering bringing the infant seat. I never knew the infant seat could be used without the base! I am going to have to investiage further!

I didn't want to rent one...I can only imagine what they look like...lol.
If you lift the cover off of the sides you will see the slots on the seat.

Re: If you flew with an infant seat?
I think if you go on Graco's site they tell you how to install w/o a base. We did this when DS was 3 months old and we went to Florida.
You can just gate check it right before you get on the plane, and if there is an extra seat then you can bring it on and use it on the plane.

Re: If you flew with an infant seat?
I'm not sure if this will help you, but DS, DH and I just returned from Florida this past Sunday. We rushed and took our Graco infant car seat with us to the airport and accidentally left the base in our car. We had no time to go back and get it. I ended up keeping DS on my lap, and he was comfy the entire flight. We were able to get a free car seat base to use with our own car seat from Hertz with AAA membership.
