If you bring your trash to a dumpster...

...do you tie off the garbage bag before throwing it in the dumpster?

DH insists that there is no need to tie it off, that it is all garbage anyway and it doesn't matter if the bag opens.

Thoughts?

Re: If you bring your trash to a dumpster...

i tie my bag, but in my complex i see people bring their trash can with no bag in it and flip the can over.

but then again i am not used to a dumpster. i am used to closing my bags with a tie and putting a cover on the garbage can so the raccoons can't get to the garbage.

Re: If you bring your trash to a dumpster...

If the dumpster is open on the top, I would, since the wind could take things. If there is a cover that is always closed (although it's hard to certify that it's ALWAYS closed, you wouldn't have to.
If it's a side entrance dumpster, you should tie it in case the bag rolls out onto the next person putting their stuff in.

It only takes two seconds to close it, and it could potentially make a big difference, so I would always just tie it off, and I did when we were at an apartment complex.

I would tie it because I personally wouldn't want to add to the stinky garbage juice smell from dumpstersChat Icon

i don't have a dumpster now, but growing up i did.

we always tied the bags closed.. mostly as a courtesy. If the garbage bags are all left open, the smells are going to get out a lot easier, attracting more bugs, animals etc.

So in the 3 seconds it takes to close it, i'm helping keep the dumpster and surrounding areas a little cleaner
