I thought i read that good start is supposed to be similar to breastmilk. are there any oters?
Also, do you mix your bm with the formula as well?

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
I use Similac just because that was the one I had the most free samples of!! And she seems to like it fine!
I don't mix the two. I will pump a few times in a day to get one bottle of BM and will give it to her then. I guess it doesn't make much difference tho, it's all ending up in the same place....

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
When I was BFing I supplemented with Enfamil Lipil. This is what they gave DD in the hospital so I continued with it. I never mixed BM with formula. In the beginning I rarely supplemented. I think I started supplementing when she was approx. 3 months old.

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
I used Isomil for Joseph & Similac Advanced for Maddie.
I didnt' mix them until they went to daycare & the bottles needed to be pre-made.

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
I use Similac Advance (my pediatrician's recommendation on day one). DS gets about a bottle or two a day.
In the beginning I used to mix BM and formula with the idea that it would help transition between the two but I don't think it was necessary. He could care less what it is as long as he can eat. He has never had a problem with switching and although he seems to prefer the BM he has never refused the formula.

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
DS got a 2 oz formula bottle supplement until 4.5 weeks when I started pumping.
I don't mix them together.
I use Similac Advanced

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
we use Similac Advanced (the blue one). However, I just found free samples of Enfamil Lipil and my ped said that was OK to use too. So far so good.
I mix them together for daycare, when I need to get to a full bottle once in a while. Usually its about an ounce of formula added to about 5 oz of bm..

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
We used Gentlease.
I never mix them because I sometimes he doesn't finish the bottle and I hate to waste BM. I use the BM bottle when I KNOW he's going to eat it all.

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
I just started supplementing at 3 months. Doctor sais to use either Enfamil Lipil or Similac Advance. I had more samples of Enfamil, so I use that. I've been giving my son a bottle or two a day of it for the past 2 weeks and he's been fine. He seems to enjoy it just as much as BM!

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
Thank you ladies. It seems like there is a range of different formulas that everyone uses. I am sure it depends on the baby.
I am lactose intolerant and I only drink soy milk. Do you think I should stick with a soy formula for DD as well?

Re: If you breastfeed and supplement....
My ped. recommended Similac powder so that's what we used.
We never mixed. DD started on formula at 4 1/2 months. I gave formula during the day and I BF in the morning, late afternoon & before bed.
