If you are planning on breast feeding...
What bottles did you register for...If I am able to breast feed I want to pump so that DH can help with the feeding especially at night
I was thinking of buying the Medela pump but read in Baby Bargain that you can rent the hospital's pump which is faster. Medela had bottles that attach to the pump but what if you are not using their pump
What bottles are good for breast milk and is there anything else that I should register for if I am planning to breast feed?
Is it safe to store milk away and if so how do you do it?
Thanks in advance

Re: If you are planning on breast feeding...
I plan to breast feed but I am still undecided about when I will need to start to pump. I heard that you should not introduce a bottle until about a month (interfere with baby learning to take the breast).
I am afraid to get a pump too soon and if it does not work out I wasted the money. So, I thought to maybe rent one at first. If I do buy I am going with the Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breastpump. It comes with bottles and then I would transfer for feeding and storgage (frig/freezer)
I need to read more on the whole process, that's for sure!

Re: If you are planning on breast feeding...
i plan to breastfeed and pump with madella. I bought freazable bags to store the milk in and plan on using Born Free bottles for feeding.
Also, the pump comes with some bottles, but i plan to pour milk into the born free bottles from those too.

Re: If you are planning on breast feeding...
I had originally registered (and received) the Dr. Browns bottles. They work great- but then I decided to stop using them because of possible BPA leaching (google it- lots of info out there).
Now I use the Platex Drop-ins and am VERY happy. They are a breeze to clean (Dr. Browns are a HUGE PITA to clean), no worries of BPA leaching, and the Playtex nipples are more like a breast than the Dr. Browns.
As for pumping- I highly recommend the PIS Advanced. I love my pump. My SIL has the regular PIS and while it's also a good pump, she has often remarked that she wishes that she got the advanced because it's much quieter.
I don't use the collection bottles for storage. I use the Lansinoh freezer bags- they're bigger than any of the others out there and they just *feel* stronger to me.
Hope this was helpful!

Re: If you are planning on breast feeding...
I nursed my DD and did both bottle and breast from the beginning. I had no issues! My SIL nursed and did not introduce the bottle until the baby was 4-6 weeks and the baby wanted nothing to do with the bottle and never really came around. So it can go either way, I think like everything else everyone is different.

Re: If you are planning on breast feeding...
I currently registered for the Playtex VentAire Wide Reusable Bottles Gift Set.
Can I use that with the breast milk...my DH liked them because you can remove the bottom to clean.
Stupid question: How do I transfer milk to the bottles?

Re: If you are planning on breast feeding...
I registered for a couple of starter sets of bottles and my BTDT sister said not to buy them myself since I didn't get them at my shower. Instead she recommended waiting until after the baby is born and buying one or two of different brands to see what the baby likes.

I plan on using the Medala pump and Born Free bottles. I plan to use storage freezer bags and transfer the milk that way.

Re: If you are planning on breast feeding...
Im planning on renting a pump at first and I registered for the born free bottles because of the whole bpa plastic thing. Im going to wait until after the baby is born and see how it goes. If the baby doesn't like the born free, my SIL swears by dr browns. As far as other things to register for, I registered for lansinoh breast pads, lanolin breast/nipple cream and lansinoh milk storage bags (I figured whatever pump I use, I can transfer to the bags for easier freezing.
