if she's using it to sleep, why take it away? She's still little.

Re: If u took away the pacifer ......

2 days it wasnt bad at all i thought it would be worse. she was using it during nap and night and then the last month she wanted it during the day and was trying to talk with it so i decidedto take it away. i had her throw them in the garbage at my folks house so that she did it and it wasnt at home. the first night was tough. i let her sleep with a doll since she never does and then i had to rub her back and pat her hinnie. after two days she was fine. i thought it was going to be really hard but it wasnt.

My DD used it to sleep too. I don't think she really *needed* it, it just helped to calm her down INSTANTLY - that was probably the only difference. So, I just stopped, and she's fine.

Re: If u took away the pacifer ......

that is good to know! Aly only uses hers during nap and bedtime but I want to get rid of it - she i 14 mths. we are having other sleep issues with her at the moment so I dont dare do it now but in anothe few weeks....I dread that first night though. I dont think she will be able to fall asleep w/o it

Re: If u took away the pacifer ......

dawn thats how i felt about olivia we had sleeping issues that were so bad. she would be waking up in the middle of the night and needed a bottle and then after a couple weeks no change. it took her a little longer to fall asleep since she doesnt have a soothing mechinism so she has to sooth herself to sleep.

Cold turkey at 6 months. He only used it during the day once in a while so we just found other ways to pacify him - like lots of toys...he didn't even know we took it away.

Re: If u took away the pacifer ......

With DS, he actually handed his paci to DW at a cousin's party, so we took that as the cue to go cold turkey. It took a few weeks to eventually rid the house of *all* pacis (it's amazing where those things can hide! Chat Icon ), but luckily, he never looked for them once we took them. DD is getting close to that age, so hopefully she'll be as easy as her brother....

Cold Turkey will work fine at that age. I took DD's away at 9 months cold turkey, she fussed for 2 days a tiny bit for naps, but that was it and never looked back. It was quite easy. My DD only used it for naps and nighttime.
