If someone you work with

was arrested for doing inappropriate things via a home computer do you think they should be made take a leave of absence until case is settled?

Re: If someone you work with

I dont think so, unless that act was being done at work or was affecting the work environment and/or some one in the workplace

This is my immediate reaction, as well.

I think any company that does that is just ASKING for a lawsuit.

Technically the company shouldn't know about it unless the employee missed work or something.

I never worked in HR so I don't know the legalities...

I think it would depend on what it was. If the employee was cyber stalking another employee, then yes, I'd want them removed until proven innocent. I just wouldn't feel safe. If they were looking at inappropriate pics of children or something they are entitled to their day in court, as repulsive as I find it.

I agree with Lauren...unless somehow the person sent innapropriate or threatening emails to the workplace FROM their home PC....depends on the situation, really..

Re: If someone you work with

If they were soliciting minors or looking at child pornography YUP, I think they should. Whether or not it's against the law for a job to fire someone for that reason makes no difference to me. I certainly wouldn't want to work with someone like that.

If it was child pornography and they work with children yes... but if it has nothing to do with their job then no...

I've seen similar situations at work.

Innocent until proven guilty. Unless they were using their workplace to commit the crime, I would suggest keeping them employed.

I don't know that anything would preclude the workplace from turning over the employees work computer to the police.

Even once convicted & time served, you can't discriminate unless the crime is specific to the job, ie embezzling & working in the finance industry.

Re: If someone you work with

i think this is a touchy subject... yes everyone is innocent until proven guilty and thats all great and everything... but if it was a known sex offender, creepy person, etc .. i m sure none of us would want to sit next to them all day .. u never know who is out there... technically the company cant do anything but I would be freaked out in certain situations....
