If a couple is renewing their vows...

This couple is renewing their vows after 10 years. They eloped and have now decided that they want to "celebrate their marraige" THey are doing it like an actual wedding....having it at a church and hall.
Question is, what do you give them as a gift? Would you treat it like a wedding and give them what you would normally give for a wedding or give a token item that would commemorate their 10 year anniversary???

Was a gift given when they eloped?

If not, I would treat it like a regular wedding.

No gift was given - didn't even know them then really.

I'm not sure I would give a big gift like for a wedding.

did they register? If so, get something from their registry.

nope didn't register-
that's the thing - I don't want to give them a big gift like it's a wedding bc it's really not. They are not starting their lives together, they've already done that. They are married, have 3 kids and a house. However, I don't know what would be an appropriate gift.

I would treat it as if they were having an anniversary party. The 10 yr mark is tin or aluminum... not sure what you can do with thatChat Icon

Re: If a couple is renewing their vows...

I would not give someone who is doing a VR a monetary gift. Maybe a gc if I didn't know what else to give but I don't think cash is appropriate. They're married for 10 years with a house and 3 kids, I think cash is definitely not necessary.

Re: If a couple is renewing their vows...

We went to a vow renewal and were shocked that it was basically a wedding ceremony and reception. We gave the same gift that we would have if it was an actual wedding.

I would probably do the same -- especially since they didn't do it big the first time.
