Ideas for "thank you" gift?
Friends of ours are nice enough to watch both TJ and Derek at our home on Sunday during my grandmothers wake. It is going to be a long day. They will probably be here 1:30 - 9:30. They are expecting a baby and I was thinking of giving them a BRU gift card to say thank you.
Good idea??? How much do you think is a good amount to give?

honestly - i would say whatever you would pay a sitter is more than acceptable....and if you are okay financially, then double that amout (as they are good friends).
my condolences for your loss...

Re: Ideas for "thank you" gift?
I think a BRU gift card is a great idea..... I would do at least $100....if you think about what it would cost to have a sitter for that many hours.... Or you canget them a gift certificate to a restaurant they like...a date night out before baby comes?? If you dont want to spend that much then maybe a gift certificate for a mani/pedi for her and maybe a fun "new dad to be" gift for him??

I think that is a good idea. I am never good on the whole amount thing though--if it were me I would probably do $50 and make sure to leave money to get nice take out dinner while they are babysitting or something.

Agreed. $50 and money for dinner. If they're offering as friends, you do not need to give them the amount you'd pay a babysitter. JMO
ETA: If I offered to watch a friends baby, I would not expect anything at all.

This is what I planned on doing.
I will probably either mail the gift card or slip it in my friends bag without her seeing because they would flat out refuse to take a gift.

ya know what you could do. order food ahead of time from a chinese restaurant near you or italian and have them deliver it around 6:00 pm then i would slip the BRU giftcard in her purse with a thank you card.

Re: Ideas for "thank you" gift?
If I were doing this favor for a friend, I would not expect to be paid or take money.....ESPECIALLY under the circumstances! What are friends for! However, if I was in your situation I am just the type that would feel like I would want to show my appreciation since they are helping out on their Sunday.
I don't think you should give cash or leave money for dinner because if they are anything like me or really just want to do you the favor.... they won't take it. I would leave the cash on the table to be honest. I think a restaurant gift card or a baby store gift card for $50 is very thoughtful and more than sufficient (they aren't doing it to be compensated... they are doing it to help you our because clearly you are a good friend and they love you). I think the gesture of the gift is very nice! If you do a restaurant gift card just make sure you pick a place that they won't have to spend much more on top of the gift card. I like to give gc's that will ensure that dinner will be covered. If you want to spend the $100 then obviously you will be able to pick a nicer place. I would probably go with a $50 gc to where she is registered.... she will definitely need it!!!!

a friend just watched DS for me the day of my sister's wedding. she just bought a house and is there doing work so often, so i gave her a restaurant GC that offers takeout too. She got good use out of it!
