I was just diagnosed w hypothyroidism, question re: synthroid
I KNEW more was going on with me than just adjusting to night shift nurse life lol. I felt like crap for months, so lethargic and hair falling out.
I will start 50 mcg synthroid tomorrow. I was just curious how long it should take to maybe start feeling better? Any insight would be great. TIA!

It was pretty immediate for me, like a few days. I would give it six weeks, and then your dr is supposed to retest your blood work to see if that dosage is working properly.

I was just diagnosed w hypothyroidism, question re: synthroid
It took awhile for my body to adjust to synthroid- the first couple of weeks I felt awful. I would set my alarm so I could wake up a few hours before I had to get out of bed and take it because I needed to lay down after taking it in the morning- once my body adjusted I had no issues- I have been taking it for nearly 12 years.

Did you go to an endo? Do you have hashimotos? I take armour and feel great after years of feeling miserable on synthroid

Hi! So my primary just diagnosed it. The hashimoto antibody test is still pending so I'll know more soon but my TSH was over 6. She wanted to start me on synthroid asap. I hope it helps. Hashimotos runs in my family, 2 of my moms siblings have it so it could be that...I will definitely update you and prob ask questions when that happens! thx!!

Re: I was just diagnosed w hypothyroidism, question re: synthroid
could take a while to get dosing correct. I would do okay for a while and then need more but that only happened for the first 2 years. Now I have been holding steady at 100mcg for a very long time. Some people think the Synthroid causes the need for more but I'm not sure. I just think it was a time in my life when this was going to happen. Also, it's good to get a full thyroid panel. You may have only had TSH tested. For me it turned out that was the only level that was off but I was glad my doctor was thorough. ETA: Looks like you did already have more tests. Good luck!

So, are you diagnosed with Hashimoto's? I am hypothyroid but not Hashimoto's (yes I am sure) but I still wonder if I would feel better on Armour.

It takes normally about 4-6 weeks for it to fully take effect. I am on 175 mcgr and I take mine at night, which is not the norm but it seems most efficient for me.

I've been waiting to feel "better" for years. It takes more than meds. If you are on Facebook, search "hypothyroid moms"... it's a great page.

It's my understanding it can help both as it gives your body T3 and T4. Synthroid doesn't. I've learned a lot on the Facebook group hypothyroid mom.

Re: I was just diagnosed w hypothyroidism, question re: synthroid
When i was first diagnosed years ago, I was HYPERthyroid and positive for Graves' disease. I had thyroid uptake and sono. Multiple noduels. Long story short, I had radioactive iodine to put me HYPOthyroid because it's easier and safer to treat than hyper.
So I'm hypo with graves. It took a little while, but 75 mcg of generic synthroid (regular doesn't agree with my system) has been working great for me.
After you get the rest of your testing back, I would strongly consider going to an endo and having an uptake test done to check your thyroid gland itself.
