I understand it is state testing time BUT
REALLY, the storm is getting worse and they still expect the kids to go in this. they rather risk a accident . CLOSE THE HIGH SCHOOLS. Get the kids who are at the school home safe!!!

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
Honestly it isn't enough snow to have closed school (even if it fell before 7a.m.) so I see why they aren't sending kids home early. We have already had snow days and at this rate the kids will be in school till 4th of July making it up!!

Doesn't seem like enough snow to warrant a closing. It already stopped snowing awhile ago where I'm at.

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
It was just raining a few minutes ago by me...now back to some little flakes. I live on a main road and the roads are clear now. It warmed up a bit. As long as the buses will go, schools will open.

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
I was debating whether or not to get DS early, had phone in hand, but, it has stopped here for now (western suffolk). Just lightly flurrying. If it was BAD im sure they wouldve called me by now.

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
DH's school is letting out 30min early. I live in Huntington and it has NOT stopped snowing since 7:30 this morning. I mean, not even rain, just snow. I would say there is at least 3+ inches already. The roads are very dangerous. All afterschool activities should be canceled IMO. Tomorrow we are suppose to get 5-10 inches so I think schools will at least be delayed if not closed.

Yes they can, it if is an emergency. They have done it in the past if I am not mistaken. It is a MAJOR PIA and students have to take the test at another time. IF we had 2ft of snow they would have no choice but to close.

Yeah, I hear ya. It has actually slowed down over here. I hope they don't close schools, a delayed opening tomorrow would be better. I don't think we have seen the end of these winter storms and I know my district only allots 2 snow days and then they take them away from vacation time. (I am on maternity leave that is why I am not at school )

We can't freak out the minute a few fluries fall. It does not warrant school closing. Maybe tomorrow depending on tonight's weather.

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
We closed early today. Middle schools out at 10:50, elementary schools staggered and out at either 11:30 or 12:10 and high schools out at 1:00.
There were a TON of early dismissals today.

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
I just came back from proctoring. It was messy but I'm glad the kids were able to take their tests. --Waiting until June might be too risky for some of the seniors.

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
Over here in Shirley, the roads where not plowed, they had no sand down and it was coming down like crazy when I made this post. The bus driver said ti was a nightmare. DD got to the test a half hour late. When I got to William Floyd , i saw not 1 but 2 cars in the medium. SO yeah I was not thrilled about her being on the road this morning

Re: I understand it is state testing time BUT
no I agree-it was bad by me. We do not have buses. All these kids including mine going back n forth to school on roads slippery as heck with speeding people was not so good. I knew they would not cancel it but thought by me maybe they should have gotten the crossing guards sooner and for longer today. You had the parents then double parked in front of the school dropping/picking up n kids walking inbetween the cars. Tomorrow will b the real fun.
