I think its time for a trainer...

since my dog has been showing total dominance towards me...everytime I yell at him or make it seem like I am coming for him to shoo him in the house (he barks by the fence by anybody who walks by) he growls at me and goes for my hands...to nip at me. Yesterday, at my shower, we had him in the bedroom fenced off since there were just too many people in the house, when he slipped away and my sister and I tried to grab him and put him back in the room, he nipped us both...he didn't break skin, but got me good (bruised my forearm). When my husband walked over to him, he just walked right into the room...

He is scheduled to be neutered in a couple of weeks and I really hope that it helps...I'm just getting more and more concerned since we have a baby on the way. He was never like this...EVER...I am wondering why this is starting to happen NOW.

Has anybody been in a similar situation?

Thanks!

For some reason, he feels he is higher than you in the chain of command. You will have to change that.
I, personally, wouldn't wait until he is neutered. I would get a trainer NOW. You need to establish your dominance long before the baby arrives otherwise you are going to have your hands full.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

totally agree, you need to establish your dominance as soon as possible. then when the baby is born, he will need to be trained to submit to him/her as well to avoid any aggressive behavior.

I agree it requires IMMEDIATE action.

What breed is he? How old is he?

We had MAJOR problems with a dominating dog (German Shepperd).

I agree that you should get the training ASAP. We had Oscar neutered during the time period in which we were working with a trainer. The combo worked wonders. He will still look to take over the dominant role whenever possible but anyone who knew him before can see tremendous progress.

Re: I think its time for a trainer...

Thanks everyone!

He is a Boxer and he is going to be 4 next month...I never had any problems with him until recently. I'm not trying to make excuses for him but maybe bc of the baby on the way, and with us being so busy all the time, we have kind of pushed him to the side and maybe that's what is causing his anger. He listens to me and obeys me most of the time, but I noticed when I come at him in a certain way to where he feels kind of "threatened" ( I don't know why I mean I never hit him or anything like that) he stands up to me...he doesn't do that with my husband at all.

I am trying to work with him now and will definitely get somebody as soon as he is neutered...he is so loving and a big mush pot, but after those couple of times of him acting up, I am concerned.

Thanks again!
