I think Firestone was trying to take me for a ride

I went in on Sunday for an oil change, and asked them to check my brakes, as the pedal seemed to be a little low...

Well, the guy calls me up in about and hour and says I need new brakes.

I need front brakes, back brakes, complete flush, and the right rear bearing is busted and so I need a new right rear bearing and seal.

Oh....and a Wheel AlignmentChat Icon Chat Icon

So, I told him I had the right rear bearing just 2 years ago, and unless I have been in a major accident, that should last a lifetime of the car...

I asked him why I needed an alignment, and he said "because we take out parts in the front, and if we do not align the front end, it will make your tires run bad"

This was to the tune of $734.00.Chat Icon

I told them to do nothing, and I would be back.

Well, i went yesterday, to a local garage, family owned, highly recommended, in the community for 20+ years...

Turns out, all I needed was some front brake pads and a seal on the bearing..costing a total of $250.

I cannot beleive what Firestone was telling me what was needed, and how much money it was going to cost....the people at the new place agreed with me that a wheel alignment had absolutely nothing to do with the brake job...
I did some research in Consumer Reports and saw some complaints about the Firestone I went to from others who said they were being ripped off too. I will also be contacting them with my story.

Yeah they usually try to do that.

Yesterday when I went for my inspection, the guy comes out Joking around though, and says you need brakes all around and new tires. So I said - Yeah I know I will get that done another time. That is what I tell people whether it is true or not true. The guys said wow didnt think you would take me seriously. I said I am not, I know the car doesnt need that stuff. I said if you wanted to make some money off of me, you should of said I needed a transmission, so the manager says, he wouldnt say that because we dont work on transmissions here.

i never go to firestone - they got my mother once for over 3 grand when all she needed was an oil change.
i dont let her go there anymore either - we all go to the local garage.
