I stink at accessorizing!

I'm starting to realize accessories make an outfit. I feel like my wardrobe is just BLAH.

How do YOU accessorize? How do you go about it? Do you just find an outfit and find things to go with it? Or do you find accessories you like and if they work with it, great?

I have this cute dress but I'm thinking it's a little blah for what I want to use it for. Is there room for accessory here?

TIA!

I suck at it too, I try to just copy what they are wearing in the photo. I really like the dress though, where is it from?

NY&Co. This is the first time I've bought a ton on the internet from them and liked every single thing. Guess I'm not getting any money back!Chat Icon

Re: I stink at accessorizing!

Thanks - I figure I'll need some really cute shoes to jazz it up.

But honestly, how does one become good at accessorizing?

Re: I stink at accessorizing!

I would probably accessorize that dress with a belt, maybe a metallic skinny belt, and possibly bigger earrings and fun shoes. I love accessorizing and I think most of it is about getting an assortment of accessories, and just trying them out with things. Belts are so much fun!

I think one tip is not to be so match matchy. Be a little risqué, if you have a plain outfit jaz it up with animal print or a bold color(bag/shoes). Chunky Jewelry to make it more interesting.

Re: I stink at accessorizing!

the frill on that dress makes it less apt for accessorizing.

id just wear a nude pump and hoop earrings. thats it.

the key to accessorizing is not to over do it.

tips in general are to start a good collection of different color necklaces , bracelets, earrings etc.

my rule is-

if you wear a statement necklace keep the earrings small (think studs )

if you are wearring big earrings, skip the necklace

if you are wearing no necklace, you can get away with big earrings and a cool bracelet

id never wear big earrngs with a big necklace and a big bracelet.

the key is balance

start a small collection from pieces @ HM or Forever 21. Each piece is $5-7 so its guiltless yet fasionable

I think it is trial and error. I also like the "accessorize, then take one thing off" rule so you don't over do it.

With that dress, I might go with a cool bracelet, but that would be it beyond shoes and bag.

ETA- I love the bracelet NYPD-Wife posted- that color would really pop against the blue.

Re: I stink at accessorizing!

LOVE that dress Tara! I think bright shoes (orange, red) and a big statement bracelet or watch would be perfect. Be careful of big earrings because it may overwhelm the ruffles Chat Icon Chat Icon
