I set up an pediatric interview with Dr. Oppenheimers group in Bellmore, but just realized they aren't affiliated with South Nassau where I am delivering. What should I do?

Did you prefer your own ped. come to see the baby after you deliver or did you allow the hospital ped. to check the baby?

You don't have to have a ped that is affliated with your hospital - as long as you don't mind that the hospital peds resident will examine your baby instead. The baby will need to be examined shortly after it comes home anyway so you can have the baby see your chosen ped at that time.

This is true...however, there is also peace of mind that your "normal" dr. is the one checking your child out in the hospital. With my first, the dr. found a rare but possibly crippling defect in my DD's hip, he is known for finding this defect at birth. Had another dr. checked her, she might limp or be unable to walk!

I am sorry that was what I was trying to say it just didn't come out that way- it is a preference - I agree that having your regular doctor you chose examine rather than a resident you know nothing about is also my perference. But one doesn't have to do that if they are comfortable with the alternative.

It wouldn't stop me from seeing the ped group. The babies are seen by hospital docs and then you bring the baby to your ped right after you get home, so that would put me at ease.

My ped isnt affilated with the hospital I will deliver so the dr. that covers her when she is away will go see the baby. I really dont have a problem with this, they get checked usually a few days after they are delivered again at their office.

we had the hospital ped look at her while in the hospital and took her to the one we chose after we came home.
