I really don't get some people- VENT
so about 2 months ago Jake called me at work- he asked if we could do this "friend" of his a favor and pay off his POD before it went to auction
it was $500 and there was suppose to be all this great stuff in there- flat screens, home theater stuff etc
(there wasn't anything good in there- I was hoping to take a flat screen and call it even)
this "friend" is the person that got Jake started in his career 7 years ago and he has fallen on hard times-
during the last 2 months- "friend" and his wife got evicted from there apartment-
left us with there cat- who they are not coming back for
she tells me she is too sick to work in the same sentence as " Can I have a Jack and Coke?"
Jake left that company and got a new awesome job and offered this friend a manager position
he showed up for a total of 2 hours monday
he was suppose to pay us back Tuesday- but instead his wife took all the money to pay off her car
they were staying at his parents- but have been asked to leave b/c the wife refused to pay the parents the money they owed them and got into a screaming fight with them monday
the poor mother fainted!
so now - he has no job, no place to live but the car is paid for- good idea
what are people thinking????
we are writing it off as lesson learned- and are thankful it was only $500
but I really don't get why this wife thought she should take there only money to pay for the car at the cost of everything else, why she hasn't gotten a job- and BTW- she doesn't even have a license- she got a DWI a few months ago-

they aren't- no second chances-
I would hate to be them in a few days when the little bit of money they have left runs out and they realize what they did

You and Jake did your part to help out a "friend" in need. If they cannot help themselves it is not your problem. You have your own problems to deal with. Good riddance!

you guys did an amazing thing by helping out a friend in need as you would want to be helped in the same situation...but now it's time to wipe thy hands of this situation.
 to be out 500 bucks, but as you said it's only 500 bucks and tell Jake not to risk his rep for him again.
How infuriating though.

I've been there too. You're a good friend for helping, but if they can't return the favor even show some more appreciation for you and other people helping them, then they have to go.
At least you and DH earned good karma points for what you did!

I've come to realize some people just $uck. It is a horrible way to feel but until people prove me wrong I live by that modo from past experiences.

Sounds to me the wife may possibly have some habits that prohibit her from making sound choices and it's dragging her DH down with her. That's pretty sad.

The wife sound's like she is a very irresponsible person and does not know about loyality to her friend's or family, You dont need toxic people in your life, and yes maybe it is a Lesson learned about lending this friend money and you know they are not responsible in paying you back i agree with everyone i would not give this friend a third or fourth chance even if they did decide to pay you back because'TRUST' needs to be gained again and i dont think they have proven that to you.My question is 'WHY' would she pay off the car if she does not have license to drive it? I hope your ex friend's get their act together.And i'm sorry you have to deal with this.

I used to feel guilty borrowing $10 for gas from my own grandmother...

I'm sorry you're out $500, that really stinks. But, if it were DH and I we would have done the same thing for the "friends". It's a shame that they aren't doing the right thing... but you can only do so much.

I think so also- this story is like somethiing you would see on intervention- I have never experinced anything like this before
it's unbelievable to me
