I need to vent
ok so my uncle is only 2 years older than me
he has 3 kids by 3 different women and he is also my dds godfather
well he is constantly messing up and always needs money so my Mom who is is his sister is constantly bailing him out (he owes her thousands which she will NEVER see again) anyway he got 2 dwis and finally got his license back but about 6 mths ago he was caught driving drunk and went to jail and needed $5,000 to get out of jail and $3,000 for a lawyer well the whole family got the money for him and he only got sentenced to like 40 days which is great
well he has court May 13th so they can officially give him the 40 days but he got arrested over the weekend for YUP YOU guessed it DWI AGAIN
my Nanny who is in her 70s is a wreck and been in the bathroom since the weekend Noone has the $6000 to bail him out and honestly I feel like he shouldnt get bailed out
I love him very much but I think he is such an a$$ for being so selfish
for someone who has NO money sure goes to bars a lot to drink

sounds like he's been given a 2nd chance and is abusing it--- I agree w/ you maybe they shouldn't bail him out--- at least right away.

It really stinks, but maybe if everyone stops bailing him out he'll learn his lesson. It's nice to have a loving family, he shouldn't abuse everyone's generosity.

agreed.
like you said, if he has the money to go out and drink then he should not be asking family members for money. one time ok, everyone makes mistakes but it seems like a trend for him. also, he probably figures that if it happens again someone in the family will help him financially.

He was out on bail waiting for sentencing and got arrested again. I'm sorry, but he shouldn't even be allowed to post bail this time.  They should send him straight to jail to serve his 40 days plus whatever he will be sentenced too for this latest DWI.
I agree with the above posters. Maybe it's time for the family to stop being taken advantage of and not bail him out this time.

4 DWIs? Sorry, he needs to go to jail for a long time....  It's lucky he hasn't hurt or killed someone yet. It's in his, and your family's best interest for him to spend some time in jail. He needs to learn the hard way that DWI is completely unacceptable, and there needs to be heavy repercussions for actions like that.

Sorry you are dealing with this!
I agree with others. I think it's time for some tough love. Clearly he hasn't learned his "lesson" from the first 3 DWI's and its about time he pays for his mistakes himself. Versus everyone joining together to get him out of the mess he put himself in.
He should really be counting his blessings that in 4 DWI's he hasn't seriously injured or even worse, killed someone.

ITA with this. i can't imagine how angry you must feel. many for you - and a knock upside the head for your uncle!

No one should be bailing him out. He needs to pay for his own irresponsibility before someone else pays with his/her life.
Even if people had the $6K. KEEP IT. It's a win-win. You keep the $6K and you hopefully keep your uncle if he learns his lesson, stays off the roads and stays alive.
ETA: If it were in the city, they would have taken his care. How many strikes before he loses his license for good?

My father having been an alcoholic I know what a nasty disease alcoholism can be. All I can say is a few nights in jail with lack of your families support really gives you a dose of reality.

No way would I bail him out. Everyone is enabling him to continually screw up his life (and theirs by taking the $$ from their pockets). Let him sit and reflect on his actions for awhile. It will serve him a world of good.

i think that's only if the first two crimes were felonies. i could be wrong.
in cases of "normal" DWI, only the second can be a felony - and in some cases that doesn't even happen util the third or fourth DWI.
ETA: according to what i see on google, all three convictions need to be for felonies.
