I need some advice for my Dad update
Well, my Dad is definitely sick. I can tell. He's always tired, he doesn't look healthy and his feet are so swollen sometimes I don't even think he can walk on them. The thing is...he won't go to the Doctor. He's an old school Italian, extremely stubborn, and deathly afraid of a needle. (He even passed out in Napoli when he was making the voyage to the US b/c they needed to take his blood). I don't know what to do. I want to bash him over the head and steal some blood to get it tested. UGH Any suggestions? I'm so sad and I don't want to lose him.
Today a blood vessel popped in his eye while he was driving. He still won't go to the Dr. HE"S SUCH A STUBBORN MAN!

Re: I need some advice for my Dad
Im sorry you are going through this but the swollen feet dont sound good. They could mean a number of things....and Im sure if he goes to a doctor, they can help him. You really should try and convince him to see a doc.

Re: I need some advice for my Dad
don't tell him where you are taking him. Just get him in the car and take him to the doctor.
he will have no time to have a phobia..
he's a grown man and needs to be looked at.
Express your concern for his health and how terrible it would be if he wasn't here to be your dad. tell him how afraid you are for him.

Re: I need some advice for my Dad
Edema could be anything. My first thought was heart or kidney.
Please convince him to go. Do it with love.

Does he have health insurance? Check and see if they have a nurse line. Maybe they can see about sending a visiting nurse to the house. I'm sure there are other options but you need to get him to the doctor some how. Swollen anything can be a sign of some really serious stuff.

Re: I need some advice for my Dad
Yes he has insurance. The nurseline is a great idea which I will try. I really tried a heart to heart with my Dad today and he said "the more you bother me the more I don't want to go" (picture in a thick Italian accent.) I'm so sad for him. I really appreciate all of your adivce. I have a feeling it's diabetes.

Re: I need some advice for my Dad update
If its diabetes, it is HIGHLY treatable with just taking a pill! I hope your dad agrees to help soon!

Re: I need some advice for my Dad update
There could be many things wrong and many simply treatable. He is afraid and I totally understand. The issue will not go away on it's own if you ignore it. It will only get worse. Better to face a small problem now then a big problem later.
Appeal to him as his little girl..
Daddy, I don't want to lose you. Get checked out before it's too late.
