I Need Some Advice

I know this is a first world problem but I could use some advice....

Im very happy with my cleaning lady and have had her for about a year and recommended her to a couple of friends. Unfortunately now she is doubling up on jobs per day and told me that she cant stay at my house as long as she has bc she has another job after mine and so she can either clean the second floor or wash and change our sheets (she used to do both).

I'm not thrilled but I can deal with it and still want to keep her. The thing is that I feel like if she is doing less of the job than we originally agreed to and staying fewer hours I shouldnt be paying her the same amount that I used to.

I already agreed to accomodate her new schedule but havent spoken to her about pay yet-- she is supposed to come next week-- How would you handle this? I dont want to lose her but I feel like Im already paying on the high end for her services which I was ok with since she spent a good amount of time at my house.

I would just ask her what you owe her for the new hours. I wouldn't want to pay the same rate for a lesser service.

Re: I Need Some Advice

You are 100% correct to feel you are now overpaying. She’s doing less work for the same price.

I would say it pretty much how you said it here. I would ask her what the new rate is now that she cannot do the same amount of work for you. She should immediately get the hint. Have a # in mind before you ask and see where it goes from there.

Brilliant-- thank you ladies! I wish i had thought to do that when i had the conversation with her on the phone.. do you think i should speak to her in advance or just ask her when she is done and i usually pay her?

Re: I Need Some Advice

I would speak to her in advance. Doing it when you pay her will be super awkward for the both of you. If you were on the fence about her, I’d say it doesn’t matter. But being that you like her and want to keep her, I’d do it in advance to save the awkwardness and give her the opportunity to give you a new fair price
