A miner's cut is also known as an old mine cut. It is an older style. It is usually a round stone but I have read that it can resemble a cushion cut stone. It has less facets than a more modern cut stone. The tip on the bottom is chopped off, so there is no sharp edge. Because it is cut there, when you look into the middle, you can see a pinpoint sized hole (hard to explain). The top surface (which has a name that I forgot) is smaller than the top surface of a modern cut. Mine cut diamonds are generally narrower and longer than the same carat size modern cut. I have my great grandmother;s mine cut diamond on a pendant around my neck. In those days, it was tough to get good quality and a lot of mine cut stones are not graded well by today's standards. My mom gave it to me thinking it was not worth much. It turned out to be off a very high quality and rare for a mine cut. I love mine cut stones. Oh, they are supposed to look gorgeous by candlelight. That is the romance factor in them!!!
According to most sources, the best clarity is IF for internally flawless. VVS1 is next after that and a lot easier to come by but still worth a lot.
