I need a microphone that is not a piece of crap!

3 y/o DS wants a microphone. He plays with grandma's karaoke machine every time he is there and sings. But that is not a kid toy and he is not gentle. And it is plugged into the wall. And he is a very "busy boy" who cannot be trusted around electrical objects. Obviously the solution is to get a stand alone microphone however all the kid microphones I see have terrible reviews OR they are all of Dora. It seems like the ones that have decent reviews are discontinued. I was not looking to spend $30+ on a microphone especially if it is crappy! He has the cat piano thing that has a microphone attached but he constantly wants to rip the cord out and walk around with only the microphone. I previously got him one of those echo microphones from the dollar bin at Target when he first showed an interest in microphones and it sits there untouched. Any recommendations?
