I know she doesn't know any better...
But... every year my MIL always gives me a Mother's day card (don't ask...I guess she doesn't want me to feel left out?  ) I have a very good relationship with my IL's, I'm very lucky in that respect. I was DREADING today and had even thought to have DH tell her not to give me anything, but after thinking about it, I didn't want to open that up for tons of questions. They do not know we are TTC so of course they do not know we are having problems getting pg. So of course, we are in a park full of families celebrating Mother's Day and she slips me her annual card. I thanked her nicely and then made up some excuse why I had to go to the car. I've been so down the past couple of weeks, and feel like I'm fighting off a depression relapse, I did NOT need this today.
Not really looking for any advice, but just needed to get this off my chest. I haven't been participating very much on this board, because I've been trying to keep myself away and busy as to try not to obsess over things too much these days.

I'm so sorry you are having a bad time right now, maybe you should see a counselor. I know how difficult and emotional this journey is and sometimes having someone to talk to makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks everyone.. I do see a therapist, and it's helped some. There's been alot going on besides this, and our situation is just in the forefront of everything. I think DH is FINALLY understanding my feelings as I think it's finally starting sink in for him as well. It took a little longer.

I would be a wreck too if I had this every year.
I thought about asking him to do that, but then after thinking about it, I didn't want it to raise any questions, which I knew it would. We just not ready to tell anyone what's been going on.
Thanks again everyone! And hopefully, next year we can all celebrate being mommies.

My husband surprised me with a mother's day card I was in shock I didn't know what to say. I have been through a lot these last couple of months I had an ectopic pregnancy in March the Dr believed it was but not sure. Even though we were not TTC it was surprised when I was pregnant. We were so happy when we found out . I get so depress not knowing if I made the right decision. I don't know if I will ever get over this. My husband made me feel like a mother that day.

That's just so odd of your MIL. Does she give DH a Father's Day card? Can DH make a preventive strike and ward her off using the perkiest voice, with the fakest smile ever?

Yeah, I agree, it's a bit odd... that's just how she is. My SILs have kids and she doesn't want me to feel left out is all. And yes, she gives DH Father's Day cards too...same reason.
Feeling a bit better. Just waiting on TBAF to show up. I'm on CD41, so if I'm consistent with the past two cycles, she should be here in the next couple of days. Which I'm praying for so she does not accompany DH and I on a very much needed vacation that we leave for next Friday.

OMG, this happened to DH and I early on in our relationship. At the time, we weren't TTC. I found it rather ODD and told DH to tell his mother and sister NOT to give me a mother's day card b/c I was superstitious. I am not that superstitious but it just seemed all so stupid! And saying "being superstitious" was more polite then saying "you're stupid" LOL Well, they respected my wishes and haven't sent me a card since.
I don't get it!
