I don't know your whole family dynamic, but if your MIL already committed to watching the baby for you, I don't think it's right that now YOU have to find another alternative. Did she already tell you that she was going back on her word to help you and your DH?

ETA - You definitely do not sound like a brat. Whether or not your SIL gets pregnant should not decide YOUR childcare situation. Especially if it was already decided previously.

awww, i think it's natural to feel that way. My SIL and I are due a few weeks apart and she has one almost three year old. She was lucky to be able to stay home with my niece but just recently got a teaching job. Soooo, they are thinking of asking DH's parents to watch the baby but that's what WE were going to do. And I don't think the il's can handle two newborns.

I am thrilled for SIL but it definitely threw a wrench in DH and I's plans.

You do not sound like a brat - you sound like a concerned mommy to be. Have you spoken to MIL about the situation? I'd definitely talk to her first before assuming she won't be able to watch your baby.
