I just don't get it (4-wheeler related)

I just don't get why people feel that they need to break out their snowmobiles and 4-wheelers/quads when there's literally 2 inches of snow on the ground.

I Chat Icon at it every winter...down the ROAD no less....how about somewhere a little more rustic. Chat Icon

Just a vent...this girl's from upstate where people actually use their snowmobiles and 4-wheelers for SNOW FUN, not snow dusting fun on the roads.

ETA: Obviously we have more than 2 inches of snow now....but yesterday when it started reminded me b/c they were out on them at the first sighting of flakes practically Chat Icon

Who cares if people take them out? My DH wishes he had his at home right now so he could take it out.

Because it's not safe in a residential area.

I hate them every time it snows they go around the block in my neighborhood. They also do it so late at night and they are so loud.

I guess they want to get use out of it...we don't get as much snow as upstate, so when there is some snow they want to use their toys.

I see nothing unsafe about them if used correctly and with a helmet etc. In some places it is perfectly legal to ride them everywhere and here in a state of emergency it is also legal.

It is safer now to be out in a ATV then in a car. JMO.

Late at night it should not be done. Same with snowblowing late at night.

I have never seen ANYONE who speeds all around my neighborhood at all hours wear a helmet.

ITA...the people all around me never wear helmets and do not drive safely....blowing through the stop signs, etc.

Is it legal to ride them on roads here?? I'm taking a WILD guess that most of the people riding them on the roads with this snow storm are not utilizing them for "emergency" situations (since you mentioned we're in a State of Emergency)....if they are, they need better directions since they drive by my house (at top speed) about once a minute for an hour straight.

IMO (again, MY OPINION) it is ridiculous when they break them out when there's 2 inches of snow....I think it's a bit ridiculous personally...and they are NOT meant for riding on the roads, they're meant for OFF ROADING, hence the premise of my post Chat Icon

As for the "who cares" beginning of your post, *I* care, hence the post Chat Icon

Re: I just don't get it (4-wheeler related)

In the past few hours (and right now), I've seen a huge black one, a big yellow one, a small purple one and a small black one. All with different drivers but all coming from the same direction. I think the guy who has the one with the plow has more, or his friends came to visit or something.

Now they're all standing on the corner and he has my other neighbors across the street trying them out. No one has helmets on and they're going fast enough to fishtail around the corner without stopping or slowing down much.

Brinkley and I almost got hit by a car on our walk this afternoon. You can't even hear the cars coming when you're not driving a loud 4 wheeler.

Best part? The big ones have headlights on them so they ride them after dark too.

Re: I just don't get it (4-wheeler related)

Now they're videotaping each other. One of them just went through an intersection that doesn't have a 4 way stop sign at at least 40mph, standing up.

If this goes on much longer, I'm considering going out there. It's really inconsiderate that they can't do this in front of their OWN house.

I apologize for saying this. With this post and the other I am taking it personal and I should just ignore things like this because I get heated and end up getting nuts!

You do have the right to your opinion and so do I but it is hard sometimes when I am the only one with certain views. I get too involved on here.

I live behind a park, where people love going ATVing and dirtbiking in the snow...It usually doesn't bother me, unless it bothers my dog, who barks uncontrolably and wakes up my sleeping children. If that happens...I call Town Safety ****** off....I need my downtime/naptime!

No worries Chat Icon I understand how you feel, I'm certainly not questioning your parenting or judgment. Chat Icon

We have our difference of opinions, that's fine. I just don't see the point of riding the ATVs down the street, that's not what they're made for, you know? And *most* people who are doing it are being irresponsible, which makes me even more annoyed at it.

Since it is illegal to do it, call the cops!

I find them highly annoying as well since MOST of the time they are used improperly.

Re: I just don't get it (4-wheeler related)

I see nothing wrong with it as long as they arent causing problems with other cars.

I was driving home at 2am last night and they were all over....I didnt mind at all they weren't causing problems with my driving.

Re: I just don't get it (4-wheeler related)

personally i find it annoying and unsafe just like those lawn mower skooters kid ride (with or without helmet.) I am fine with them in a park with no snow plows, residential cars parked and kids running around.

UNLESS you are in a rural setting.
