I just cannot find bedding...
it is so frustrating! I have been looking for the perfect bedding for almost 2 years now!!!!!!! 
I guess I am too picky - I love restoration hardwares new pintucked bedding - but they don't have it in the color I need. I have checked out pottery barn, crate and barrel, BBB, Target, Kohl's, LNT, fabric mill, ABC home, online, fortunoff - NOTHING!! Where else can I look???
eta: checked all the dept. stores too!

I had trouble finding mine also, but I didn't look for 2 years!! I finally found it on overstock.com. In the past I've found nice sets at Sears, Penney's, and Macy's.

I am in the same place and have looked at all the stores you mentioned and more. All the stores keep showing the same things and IMHO the browns look horrible. I want blue bedding and not the navy they are showing. I like pale blue or a medium blue and unfortunately no one is making that right now.
I also want a comforter and not a duvet. I loath duvets.

what i plan to do is hit the garment district in NYC and pick out fabric so my mother can make (and hopefully teach me) a custom set!
sheets and pillowcases i can always find plain at marshalls/home goods, it's the duvet covers, bedskirts and pillow shams i like to get a little creative with...

Yesterday I went to JCPenny for window treatments - after seeing a post on here - because I have been looking for AGES and bring stuff home and it is never right. I noticed that they do have a LOT of bedding -- you might want to try it!!
ETA: We spent a fortune on our Calvin Klein bedding - king sized cumforter, all the bells & whistles -- and when we got it, I hated it. The colors were so different than they appeared on the computer when we ordered it. We got it through a friend who works for Clavin so we couldn't really send it back...now I am stuck with expensive bedding I HATE. I now refuse to buy anything like that -- bedding, curtains, furniture -- on-line. I need to see and feel it first...

I just got a really nice bedding set on overstock.
similar to the pottery barn ultra suede set - but WAY cheaper. I actually do the duvet/cover thing... they seemed to have a lot of sets.
super soft and it was $79 for a king size set.
i'm a new overstock convert.

i have no advice but i know EXACTLY how you feel. i can't tell you how many quilts, duvets, and comforters i have bought and returned over the past year.
have you ever thought of buying fabric (the fabric mill has a TON) and having someone make the bedding? although it may cost more than buying "off the rack" at least you can customize it to what you really want and not feel like you have to settle. i might go this route myself if i can't find something soon.
