I have PCOS...

I have PCOS...

and get large painful cysts every month. I was excited this month b/c I thought I actually ovulated. Had a sonogram and have a 4cm cyst. Chat Icon So my dr. said that I may be a candidate for metformin. Question is, do I go to a family practitioner or see an RE? TIA!

i dont know much about PCOS, but if you're not ovulating on your own, I would see an RE since they specialize in all of this and they might be in the best position to hlep you sinse they deal with this sort of thing every day

This is what I am thinking also, so I think my above question sounds dumb Chat Icon Just not sure why OB wouldn't suggest this.

I am on it, just started I have PCOS mildly and do ovulate, im just on a 45 day cycle. I had no side effects formt he met, i take 500 2 times a day. My gyn perscribed it. I am also losing weight on it which is awesome sine i need to lose 20 plus pounds...

The metformin binds the androgens given off by the tiny cycts...which is what PCOS patients have, over a few months you should o on your own..If you dont see a change by then then see a specialist...

this is a whole different world and believe me, its gets REALLY confusing really fast!

I have PCOS and do not ovulate on my own.. I have absent periods.

I went from my OB/GYN straight to an RE. Although I love my OB/GYN, there is very little that they can do for us. I would definitely recommend seing a RE!

I do not have any experience with Metformin, so I can't be of any help there! Chat Icon
