I hate sounding like a brat but...

i asked DH if we could go away for my 30th birthday for the weekend. He said fine no problem he would take care of everything then asked me where i wanted to go. I told him either newport, RI or Boston.

He turns around and books a trip to Williamsburg, VA because "he's never been there". Ok...i was there on class and family trips.

Last night he wakes me up to tell me he booked us a mystery theater dinner on my BIRTHDAY!!!!! So not the type of dinnner that i had in mind!

i know i'm feeling sorry for myself but this is so not what i had in mind for my 30th birthday.

Also, this is probably one of our last childless trips.

sorry, had to vent Chat Icon

Awh. He means well. If it makes you that unhappy, just tell him you'd rather go to Boston.

I would love to go to a mystery dinner theatre show, but probably not on my 30th.

Maybe he's just trying to throw you off --- although I don't want to get your hopes up. Chat Icon

I hate it when they try so hard and really just don't hit the mark because you still have to encourage the effort and give them an A for it. Do your best to enjoy it and I like the other girls' ideas of doing what you want for his.

Re: I hate sounding like a brat but...

I'd be so annoyed if DH did that only IF I thought he made these plans with himself more in mind. If he knew I'd already been to Williamsburg and was interested in Boston or RI etc. I'd definitely be questioning how we ended up with Virginia. If there are selfish reasons involved, I'd be really disappointed with him.

If this is just another case of man's utter cluelessness and he really did mean well, I'd squeeze him and kiss his nose and just go with it. A few glasses of wine and I'd be giggling my way through mystery dinner theatre, thinking about how much I love my dork of a DH.

ETA: You don't sound like a brat at all. And I'd tell DH that I'm in charge of all trip planning from now on.
