I had to visit the Dr before....UPDATE!

The past 2 weeks I have been getting some pressure in my eyes and its causing me to not see that good out of one of my eyes, it only lasts a 1/2 hr but its scary. I would usually get it when a migrain would come on, but I'm not getting the headache, just the vision problem......anyway, I got one before and took my BP and it was high, so I freaked out and called my dr, who wanted to see me right away. When I got to the office my BP went back down again and my vision got better, my Dr said he wants me to see an eye Dr, that I may have some swelling behind my eyes caused by the pregnancy.....so now I'm a nervous wreck, but I was at the eye Dr before I got pregnant and my vision is perfect.

Has anyone ever had something like this before? (probably not--lol)

I swear its always something.....Chat Icon

UPDATE: Went to the eye Dr today, and he said my vision is great and I was probably getting those ocular migrains when my BP would peak and from being stressed. I'm so happy I don't have anything seriously wrong with my eyes! Thanks for all your help girls!Chat Icon

Re: I had to visit the Dr before....

I have read that vision can get screwed up during pregnancy and always returns back to normal pp.

I don't have any personal experience, but best of luck! I'm sure it will all work itself out. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I had to visit the Dr before....

i get this once in a while and im not PG. its called ocular migraine (google or wiki it). it's the exact thing you are describing where you feel weirdness in your eye and your vision becomes weird.

its basically a migraine of your eye and its caused by the same triggers that cause a regular migraine. it scared the crap out of me the first time it happened - i thought i was having a stroke of some sort cause my vision in the corner of half my eye was completely blurry - i went immediately to the eye doctor.

basically its about a half hour worth of eye pain that may or may not be followed by a regular migraine headache. i usually get them when im PMSins so i guess when i am PG i can expect to get them more.

unfortunately they are random occurances. the only thing you can do is really avoid anything that is known to give you regular migraines. good luck i hope that is what you have experienced because theres not really too much danger of anything serious or prolonged from them. they are just as harmless as regular migraine - annoying but they go away. i would still see the doctor since you are PG but def read up on ocular migraine i think it will ease your concern a bit!

I had my eyes checked to update my contact lense prescription about 4 weeks ago. The doctor asked me if I was having any vision problems. I said no and I asked why he was asking. He said that many pregnant woman have vision issues so he wanted to check.

This is exactly what I'm getting! before I was preggo I would get one of these like once a year, I just started getting one like every other day last week, I'm getting over a upper resp infection/sinus pressure so I thought thats whats causing it.

Can stress cause these to? I have been very stressed out lately, and I noticed I would get one after being stressed for a while. I can't stand them, they freak me out!! Thanks so much for this info!Chat Icon

i get them around 2x per year. i think the fact that you got them once a year before you were PG is def a sign that that is the issue and its not PG related. i guess if stress can cause regular migraines and you are prone to ocular ones (prone meaning you've had at least one or two prior episodes ever since they are rarer than reg migraines) then it can most likely be a trigger of ocular migraines as well. my eye doc said anything that can cause a regular migraine has an equal opportunity of causing an ocular one. so my guess would be yes - but i am not a medical professional Chat Icon

i would still see the eye doctor to make sure that's what it is AND to make sure that there isnt something underlying that's causing them to occur so frequently but it sounds a lot like what i have experienced. the first time i had one i had another in a close proximitey to it - and then didnt have one for another six months or so). i secretly feel that working with long excel spreadsheets brings them on (thats what i was doing at work the first time i had one) so dont know if you've been working with them lately (ps - there is NO medical data about that its just my opinion LOL Chat Icon )

anyway hope you feel better!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I had to visit the Dr before....

Yes, actually, when I was 34 weeks pregnant, I was getting blurred vision in my eye and pressure behind it, which is always a sign of a migraine coming on for me, but no migraine followed. I called my dr. and she sent me directly to L&D at Stony Brook where the proceeded to tell me that my blood pressure was high and they'd most likely have to take the baby early from me because they thought it was pre-eclampsia. Well, when they said that, I passed out from my nerves and being overwhelmed, and my blood pressure never went back up from my normal range, so the discussions of an early c-section halted and they sent me for an MRI (What a miserable experience, especially with a baby in your belly!). The MRI was all clear, and they finally sent me home saying that it sounded like a migraine to them. That would be fine, except that they swore when I got there that a migraine could not present itself without pain. 26 hours later, someone from neurology came down to tell me that yes, migraines CAN and DO present themselves without pain and that it was what I was experiencing.
So, that's my long-winded explanation. I also had to go to the eye doctor and nothing was wrong.
Sounds like a migraine.Chat Icon
